Ufc Vegas 62 Selection And Breakdown For Two Main Event Bouts

Another jam-packed event taking place at the UFC Apex venue in Las Vegas, UFC Vegas 62, aka UFC Fight Night has two fantastic top-end bouts. In the main event of the evening, two women’s flyweight contenders go at it with No.5 ranked Alexa Grasso squaring off with No. 6 in the flyweight division Viviane Araújo. Prior to that fight, the men’s light heavyweight division will see some shockwaves when Misha Cirkunov tangles with Alonzo Menifield. Both of these bouts should have some major ramifications for their respective divisions depending on who wins in each contest.

For this article, SBS will go over what to expect from each fighter, who will win in both contests, plus some other thoughts and notes about UFC wagering.

UFC Women’s Flyweight Matchup Overview: Alexa Grasso vs. Viviane Araújo

Fighter Spotlight: Alexa Grasso

A competitor that is looked at as a potential title contender if things keep going her way, Grasso is riding a three-fight winning streak heading into her bout later this month. The striker is known for winning decisive points on the judge’s scorecards, the 29-year-old from Mexico currently maintains a 14-3 record with four submission wins to her credit. After dropping her UFC debut back in 2017, Grasso has established a 6-3 record in the UFC. Also since making her debut in the flyweight division, she has an undefeated 3-0 record and is coming off a submission victory via rear-naked choke over Joanne Wood in March of this year.

Fighter Spotlight: Viviane Araújo

A cagey veteran in the UFC, Araújo is also coming off a victory from earlier this year with a unanimous decision win over Andrea Lee in May. At 35 years of age, she is one of the oldest fighters in the women’s flyweight division but also has only been a professional since 2015. Nonetheless, in that time Araújo has made her mark with a professional fighting record of 11-3 with a variety of victories – three wins by knockout, four submission victories, and four decision wins. Last year Araújo fought twice with one winning coming in unanimous fashion over Roxanne Modafferi, but she, unfortunately, fell short later in the year to Katlyn Chookagian also by unanimous decision.

Prediction: A solid main event contest, look for the youthful upstart to win here as Grasso should be able to outlast Araújo

UFC Men’s Light Heavyweight Contest: Misha Cirkunov vs. Alonzo Menifield

Fighter Spotlight: Misha Cirkunov

Cirkunov is one of the imposing fighters in the light heavyweight division, but he is looking to turn things around at UFC Vegas 62. After an armbar submission defeat at the hands of Wellington Turman earlier this year in Vegas, Cirkunov is now 2-6 in his last eight professional UFC bouts. However, Cirkunov is not one to be underestimated as evidenced by his eight career submission wins along with his five knockout victories over the course of his career. Though he maintains an overall record of 15-8 in professional fights, he is still looking for his first middleweight victory since making the switch to the division in October of last year.

Fighter Spotlight: Alonzo Menifield

The last fighter spotlight on our list, Menifield is looking for his first win streak since last year. Following a TKO win over Askar Mozharov in June of this year, the 34-year-old from Los Angeles is angling to move his way up the light heavyweight division. With notable wins over Ed Herman, Fabio Cherant, and Paul Craig, Menifield certainly has the credentials to hang with Cirkunov throughout the match. He has won the lion’s share of his fights by way of knockout at nine total victories so his punching power has been known to be devastating in the past.

Prediction: In a brawl that should feature some powerful action, take Menifield to win out here thanks to his superior punching acumen
