One of the best horse racing betting opportunities of the year happens Sunday, October 1: the Breeders’ Stakes at Woodbine Racetrack! The race is the third and final jewel of the Canadian Triple Crown, a 1 ½-mile turf race that features some of the best Canadian-bred sophomores in training.
The race should be a great chance to find value at the betting windows. With two different winners in the King’s Plate (Paramount Prince) and the Prince of Wales (Velocitor), there should not be a heavy favorite in the Breeders’. And, with the mile and a half on grass being a new challenge for every horses in the race, it means there is a strong chance for a runner to score at a great price!

This is the official field for the 2023 Breeders’ Stakes including post positions, trainers, and jockeys for each horse.
Keep in mind that the odds are just the track’s best estimate for the odds at post time. They are no guarantee of a price. If you play a horse at the track, the odds can swing late and what looks like an overlay a few minutes before post can drop steeply.
Your best bet is to play the Breeders’ Stakes at an online sportsbook. Since online sportsbooks offer fixed-odds wagering on major races, that means you can lock in an overlay simply by placing a bet! These are the odds on contenders at the top of the market for the Breeders’ Stakes:

Now that you have created your online betting account, it is time to meet the leading contenders for the 2023 Breeders’ Stakes:
The bet bet in the Breeders’ Stakes is Tito’s Calling. She comes out of the Wonder Where Stakes, which is the classic Canadian turf route for sophomore fillies. That was only 1 ¼ miles, but it was impressive how she tracked a slow pace and finished well enough to win with complete authority. If she can stretch out to 1 ½ miles, the same kind of trip and the same kind of finish could win her this race, too.
Paramount Prince stole the King’s Plate on the front end. With even less speed signed on for the Breeders’, he could get a very similar trip in this race, too. The question is how he handles the grass, as he has yet to race on a turf course. However, Tapeta form often translates well to the lawn. If he can hold his form and get another cozy front-end trip, he could prove difficult to pass.
The horse in closest range behind Tito’s Calling at the end of the Wonder Where was Wickenheiser. Though the pace is against her once again, perhaps with a better start she could either sit a bit closer or finish a bit better. Furthermore, if the horses in front of her start to tire at the mile and a half, she has one of the better long-distance pedigrees in the field, and she could outstay them.
British Artillery will be a serious longshot, but there are good reasons to consider her for exotic or even each-way bets. She needs to move forward, but she has perhaps the best long-distance turf pedigree in the whole field. She may just need this kind of distance. And, in terms of pace, she is one of the few with some early speed, and should be able to keep close tabs on Paramount Prince.
Even though Elysian Field was unable to reel in Paramount Prince in the King’s Plate, she was not losing ground late either. She made a good looking move and chased on with tenacity, also suggesting she has some good stamina. Though she is unlikely to get a more advantageous trip with so little pace signed on, it would be no surprise if she is able to chase down the lane once again and get another slice of the exotics.
You have your betting account and you know the contenders. It is time for the most fun part of all: placing your bets in the Breeders’ Stakes! These are the best bets for the final jewel of the Canadian Triple Crown:
