A huge Major League Baseball series starts tonight when the Texas Rangers and the Milwaukee Brewers meet in the first of their three-match mini-series at Globe Life Field. Here we look at the latest odds for the opening match and tell you the best bets to make with our latest MLB betting picks.
The Rangers top the AL West, with the Brewers sitting top of the NL Central. Both have slender leads in their respective divisions, and both could do with the series win.
Texas has the Houston Astros breathing down their necks. The Astros are the current World Series champions and know how to get the job done at the business end of the season.
In the betting to win the AL West, the Rangers are the favorites at -145. The Houston Astros are +125, with the Seattle Mariners at +1500.
As for the Milwaukee Brewers, they have the Chicago Cubs and the Cincinnati Reds for company. The Cubs and the Reds aren’t quite as daunting prospects as the Astros. But the Brewers may not have expected to be in this position and may not know how to best handle it.
The Brewers are favored to win the NL Central. They are -140 to top the division, with the Chicago Cubs at +185 and the Cincinnati Reds at +450.
Moving on, and in the betting to win the 2023 World Series, the latest outright winner odds show just how well the Rangers and the Brewers have done this season.
The best MLB World Series betting sites have the Atlanta Braves as their +325 betting favorites to win the 2023 edition. The Braves are followed by the Los Angeles Dodgers at odds of +450, with the defending champions, the Houston Astros next at +650.
The Texas Rangers are fourth favorites to win the 2023 World Series. The Rangers are +750, ahead of the Tampa Bay Rays (+850), the Baltimore Orioles (+950), and the Philadelphia Phillies (+1800).
The Brewers are +2800 to win the World Series, which is better than most would have predicted.
In the betting to win the opening match of the mini-series, the top-rated MLB betting sites are struggling to split the two franchises on the money line. At the moment, they are just favoring the Rangers at -114. The Milwaukee Brewers are +104. It is ridiculously close and could easily change before the match starts.
The handicap spread is set at 1.5 and is in favor of the Brewers. The Brewers are -200 with the points spread on their side. The Rangers are +175 to cover the spread.

The Texas Rangers are in the middle of a strange run of form. In their last ten matches, they have a 7-3 record, but that doesn’t tell the whole story.
Their last outing was a 2-0 home defeat to the Angels on Wednesday night. But they won that series 2-1, having beaten the LA-based franchise 12-0 in the opening fixture and 7-3 in the second match, to clinch the series.
As the tweet shows, the 12-0 win was the 23rd time this season the Rangers have wracked up double figures. This makes it hard to work out how a side can go from winning 12-0 to losing 2-0 in the space of two matches. And that may go some way to explaining why the best betting sites aren’t overly confident in the Rangers to see off the threat from the Brewers.
The Brewers have just lost three in a row away to the LA Dodgers. In fairness, there’s no disgrace there. But at the same time, it must be disappointing to come up short against one of the World Series betting favorites when that’s where you aspire to be yourself.
Before being on the receiving end of a sweep in LA, the Brewers swept the White Sox 3-0 in Illinois. So it hasn’t been all doom and gloom on the road. Although another heavy reversal in Texas this weekend might change that opinion.
In their last ten outings, the Brewers are 5-5. And on the road, they have a record of 32-30. Their win percentage of .533 is the lowest of any division leaders except the Twins, who top the AL Central with a win percentage of just .516.
At Arlington, the Rangers have a 42-21 record. That’s a home record that compares with the Dodgers and the Braves. Home form doesn’t seem a problem for Bruce Bochy’s team.
The Rangers have also won the opening match of their last five mini-series. The last time they didn’t win their opener was when they were swept by the Padres at the end of July. And that was on the road.
The form seems to be pointing towards a win for the Rangers. The only decision is do we go for them to cover the spread and get the better price. We believe it is worth the risk, and we’re picking the Rangers to win and cover the spread for our betting pick.
