Announced earlier this year, multiple title holder (Super WBA and WBO welterweight) Terence Crawford is slated to take on Israil Madrimov for his WBA super welterweight title. In this matchup, the former will move up a weight class to take on the latter. A native of Omaha, Nebraska, Bud has had a stellar career and was most recently ranked as the world’s third-best active boxer, pound for pound, by multiple outlets including BoxRec and ESPN. Conversely, his opponent, the reigning WBA super welterweight champion is a very talented fighter who has notched multiple accolades at the international level. Indeed, this bout should be a sensational one as both combatants bring a list of strengths to the table.

For this report, SBS will be going over what to look for from each fighter along with a predicted winner and even more notes and info regarding boxing wagering.

What to look for from: Terence Crawford

As noted above, Crawford is an amazing fighter who has multiple world championships in three weight classes, from lightweight to welterweight, including the undisputed championship. Moreover, with this accolade, he became the first in any weight class to simultaneously hold all four major world titles since Jermain Taylor in 2005. With a perfect record of 40-0, Crawford has clearly bested all comers, most of the time in dominant fashion. This also includes 31 knockout wins in the course of his career. Moreover, he is coming off a dominant TKO win over Errol Spence Jr. where he won the WBA, WBC, IBF, and a vacant The Ring championship. In fact, since 2016 he has won each fight he has entered by either TKO/KO or some form of early decision (Felix Diaz in 2017).

In his last nine bouts, he has scored nine consecutive TKO/KO victories. As one might surmise, all of these bouts had some sort of title implications, with most of these contests consisting of Crawford retaining his WBO welterweight championship along with scoring other accolades along the way. This includes winning belts from Julius Indongo (WBA and IBF light welterweight) titles and then moving up to welterweight. This was capped most recently by his sensational victory over Spence Jr. in Las Vegas last year with an emphatic ninth-round TKO.

A sensational fighter, the Omaha, Nebraska native has few faults in his game, other than normal wear and tear, Crawford has not been slowed down by many fighters, and perhaps only father time can stop the impressive athlete. However, since he is moving in weight class, this could present some new challenges for Bud, but he should be more than up for the challenge as he has had over a year to prepare.

What to look for from: Israil Madrimov

The current WBA super welterweight champion since March of this year, he has scored a variety of accolades. This includes a gold medal at the Asian Games in 2018 in the middleweight boxing division and also a first-place finish at the 2017 Asian Championships as well. With a sensational international career, Madrimov does not quite have the tenured boxing track record of Crawford, but he does boast a perfect 10-0 record in the ring. Most recently, he notched a stellar fifth-round TKO victory over Magomed Kurbanov for the vacant WBA super welterweight title in Saudi Arabia. During the course of his professional career, he accrued seven knockout wins including five to start his pro tenure.

In his last five fights, he has notched two unanimous decision victories, along with two TKO wins and one technical draw. In a two-fight series against Michael Soro, he first defeated his opponent by way of TKO back in December 2021. Then in a rematch, the fight was ruled a technical draw, which is the closest Madrimov has come to a professional loss. Since then, he has been spectacular with a unanimous decision victory over Raphael Igbokwe in April of 2023, followed by his TKO win over Kurbanov for the WBA title. However, this bout against Crawford presents his stiffest challenge yet against the future boxing Hall of Famer, but this also is his biggest opportunity for a marquee win.

Prediction: This bout should make for an entertaining one, but Crawford has the advantage here given his more dominant resume and higher caliber of opponents faced. While the weight class move could prove to be a challenge, Bud is still the choice here to lock down the title
