The 2023 Tour De France begins this weekend with the best cyclists in the world competing to enter the history books and win the biggest race on the calendar.
Many people believe that the race will be competed between the 2022 winner Jonas Vingegaard and the 2020 and 2021 winner Tadej Pogacar, who are widely considered to be the two best riders in the world right now. But there are plenty of others ready to fight for their spot who could represent fantastic value if you choose to back them.

Every time Tadej Pogačar pins on a race number, he appears to be on the cusp of making history.
Recently the 25-year-old won his sixth Monument and won the Giro d’Italia by the biggest margin of anyone since 1965, cementing his legacy as one of the very best of his generation. Now he has the chance to become the first to complete the elusive Giro-Tour double since Marco Pantani in 1998.
Pogačar has finished in the top two in this race in each of the last three editions but only got the victory in 2022.
Vingegaard’s now-confirmed presence is the biggest threat to Pogačar’s pursuit of the famous yellow jersey, as despite the Slovenian cracking multiple times under the Dane’s superior climbing pressure in the past two Tours, he’s beaten the next-best rider by more than three and a half minutes. Only Vingegaard looks capable of stopping him.
Pogačar is a long way from the final podium in Nice but these next three weeks could further cement his legacy. With his dominance of the sport so far in 2024 he’s the obvious pick to make history and get the win.
At -165 there’s actually some good value in it too, so it’s one to keep an eye on as it’s likely to get worse as he gets closer to victory.

Jonas Vingegaard has jumped from an honorable mention back to the second favorite for the Tour, thanks to his team Visma-Lease a Bike ending all the weeks of speculation and confirming that he will defend his title.
With the confirmation now in, and despite all of Visma’s injury woes in 2024, Vingegaard will take on the Tour in pursuit of a third title alongside a star-studded team. Wout van Aert was confirmed in the same release and the rest of the team will be made up of Matteo Jorgenson, Tiesj Benoot, Wout van Aert, Christophe Laporte, Wilco Kelderman, Sepp Kuss and Jan Tratnik.
However, even with his place on the roster, what’s still unknown is his shape. It was always believed that Vingegaard would not race in France unless he and his team were sure that he would be able to compete at the front and win.
He’ll need to discover his race rhythm instantly on the opening duo of the difficult Italian stages. Signs are looking good for Vingegaard but his team were cautious about predicting whether he’d be able to challenge the top step of the podium.
History proves he is the man to stop Pogačar’s dominance, but with doubts about his condition and form after a spell out injured, it would be a big risk to back him to return and claim a third victory in the most difficult race of the season.

Primož Roglič was well and truly back in June, firing on all cylinders with his new team to claim victory at Criterium du Dauphine.
The Slovenian netted back-to-back wins on stages 6 and 7, reminding us of just how good he can be when he’s at his best.
The Dauphiné saw most of the doubt cast over Roglič’s form after he only managed 10th at Paris-Nice and following his return from injury after Itzulia Basque Country disappear, and means he’s coming into this race in great form.
After unfortunately going down in the mass crash on stage 5 and with his crash history, he will be hoping that’s the end of his bad luck ahead of the Tour de France.
Roglič and Pogačar will face off at the Tour and at a stage race for the first time since the 2022 edition. Their last head-to-head for Tour victory came at the dramatic 2020 race when Roglič seemed to have the better of his compatriot until a dramatic turn on the stage 20 time-trial up to La Planche des Belles Filles.
Four years on and it could be a race against the clock to Nice, with both hugely confident of seeing out a win if they can enter the final stages in the lead. At +800 the value for Roglic to win is tremendous and is certainly worth a flutter.
