Following the NFL Draft last month, all of the NFL will be heading into the off-season with the goal of making the Super Bowl next season – even the Houston Texans. With Super Bowl LVII taking place next February in Glendale, the stage is set for another exciting year of NFL action. The Los Angeles Rams were able to lock down the Lombardi Trophy last season thanks to a star-studded roster along with the rebirth of quarterback Matthew Stafford. Meanwhile, squads like the Bengals, Bills, Bucs, Chiefs and Packers are all vying for a return to the top of the mountain.
In this post-NFL Draft edition article, SBS takes a closer look at the top four favorites to win the Super Bowl next season and who has the best shot of winning it all.
Favorites to Win Super Bowl LVII | |
---|---|
Buffalo Bills | +675 |
Tampa Bay Buccaneers | +800 |
Kansas City Chiefs | +1000 |
Los Angeles Chargers | +1200 |
Buffalo features one of the most explosive rosters in all of the NFL, but their main focal point is quarterback Josh Allen. Named as a second-team All-Pro player in 2020, Allen has shown a ton of growth since being drafted out of Wyoming during the 2018 NFL Draft. In addition to Allen and Pro Bowl receiver Stefon Diggs, Buffalo added some other former Pro Bowlers this offseason, like linebacker Von Miller and guard Rodger Saffold. Last season, the Bills were 11-6, which was good for first place in the AFC East, and it should be a similar story this year with no other squads, presumably, stepping up to challenge them in the division. With two All-Pro safeties on their defense, the Bills have one of the most well-rounded rosters in football.
With quarterback Tom Brady officially returning, the Bucs are the confirmed favorite in the NFC to make a Super Bowl run. With arguably the greatest football player of all time leading their squad, Tampa Bay has a great chance to make another Super Bowl run in 2023. Though the Bucs might potentially be without the services of future Hall of Fame tight end, Rob Gronkowski, they still have an explosive offense headlined by receiver Mike Evans and running back Leonard Fournette. The Bucs also added two solid second round picks to their roster this offseason in defensive tackle Logan Hall (Indiana) and interior offensive Luke Goedeke (Minnesota) to bolster their talented, but aging, squad.
Finishing the 2021 season with a record of 12-5, the Chiefs were once again positioned to make a Super Bowl run. Following two resounding wins in the NFL Playoffs against the Steelers (42-21) and Bills (42-36 in overtime), Kansas City was set to square off with the upstart Cincinnati Bengals in the AFC Championship. Heavily favored, the Chiefs surprisingly fell to the Bengals in overtime, 27-24. Though this was not the result they were looking for, Kansas City can never be counted out when they have the services of All-World quarterback Patrick Mahomes at their disposal. Though they lost All-Pro receiver Tyreek Hill this offseason, they still have perhaps the best offense in football with Mahomes at the helm.
The only squad on this list that did not make the playoffs last season, the Chargers made a ton of moves in the offseason in the hopes it will pay off during the 2022-23 campaign. With six Pro Bowlers from 2021 returning this year along with two former All-Pro players (Khalil Mack and J.C. Jackson) joining the squad, the Bolts suddenly look stacked. With clear issues on the right side of the offensive line last season along with a porous interior run defense, the Chargers made it a point to fix these issues immediately. Though it remains to be seen if Los Angeles can put it all together in 2022, they do have the talent with over a dozen Pro Bowl-caliber players on their roster, some young talent and a handful of veteran winners.
Prediction: With next year’s Super Bowl being so far away, it would certainly appear the Chargers have set themselves up for success. With one of the best young quarterbacks in football in Justin Herbert, the Bolts have all the pieces to make a run at the Lombardi Trophy.
