One to watch: Abdul Carter

The man most people are expecting to be the number one draft pick is quarterback Cam Ward and he hasn’t decided yet, at the time of writing, if he will be throwing at the Combine this year.

That leaves the door ajar for Carter, who many people are anticipating going as a potential top-three pick himself. He was named a consensus All-American and earned Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year honors last season, and has great all-round skills.

He’s got a great initial burst and is very agile, which is likely to see him score pretty well in some key events this year. Those performances could potentially push him higher up in some scouts eyes, which could see his price move for the Draft. It’s most certainly something to keep an eye on over the course of the weekend.

NFL Picks: Will the 40 yard dash record be broken? – No @ -700

The 40-yard dash is one of the most revered drills across the entire Combine, with scouts almost always taking a close look at results when making their decisions on who to select in the Draft.

In 2024, Xavier Worthy broke the record for the fastest time in the event. He ran an incredible 4.21 seconds, breaking a record set by John Ross back in 2017.

The chances of that happening again just a year later are incredibly slim, and there is nobody who really stands out as having a chance to really run it close either.

The general consensus is anything below 4.30 seconds is considered quick, so anyone essentially running a tenth-of-a-second quicker than that seems impossible without heavy expectations beforehand.

The betting market suggests it won’t be happening either, and -700 seems like a straightforward decision to make for this if you want to make a quick buck.

NFL Picks: Most Bench Press Reps Over 36.5 @ -120

Another key Combine event is the bench press, where players will do as many reps of 225lbs as they can before failure.

The all-time record was set by Stephen Paea back in 2011 when he repped an incredible 49 times before being drafted at No.53 by the Chicago Bears during the draft. The previous record was held by Mike Tudla (2006) and Mitch Petrus (2010) with 45 reps.

There are some really big, strong guys in this year’s draft class and while they may not hit the 42 reps or more that it would take to break into the top ten ever, I would expect at least one person to get pretty close at worst.

In 2024 one person managed to surpass the Over of this line with Beaux Limmer repping 225lbs 39 times, and the field this year looks to be bigger and stronger than last year.

At -120 there is good value in at least one person hitting the magic number, and this is our best bet of the weekend for the NFL Combine.
