After one of the most exciting seasons (especially the playoffs) in NFL history, teams are already looking ahead to Super Bowl LVII in Glendale. The Los Angeles Rams (+1200) took home their first Super Bowl since the team was still in St. Louis but will they repeat as the champions in 2023? They will have some work to do next season with a slew of squads predicted to finish ahead of them. So, with the defending champions coming off a historic performance in this past year’s Super Bowl, which squads could possibly be ahead of them?

Below, SBS breaks down the top four teams positioned to take home the Lombardi Trophy next season and who ultimately will win the championship.

Buffalo Bills+700
Kansas City Chiefs+800
San Francisco 49ers+1100
Green Bay Packers+1200

The No. 1 Contender: Buffalo Bills (Odds: +700)

Coming off of consecutive AFC East titles, their first consecutive division title since 1991, the Bills have a strong shot of taking home the franchise’s first-ever Super Bowl next season. This past season, the Bills had the No. 1-ranked defense in the league, along with the highest point differential and margin of victory in the NFL. Even though they have a stacked roster (they had two All-Pro safeties in 2022), the Bills will only go as far as their dynamic quarterback Josh Allen will take them.

The No. 2 Team: Kansas City Chiefs (Odds: +800)

Winners of the past six AFC West championships, the Chiefs are a virtual lock to make the playoffs each season and compete for a Super Bowl. With a roster that had seven Pro Bowlers last season (four on offense and three on defense), the Chiefs will always be in the Super Bowl picture. Though they fell short to the Bengals in this year’s conference championship game, 27-24, Kansas City should be able to bounce back. With perhaps the best player in the NFL leading the way, quarterback Patrick Mahomes, the Chiefs can never be counted out until the final whistle sounds.

Third Best Contender from the Field: San Francisco 49ers (Odds: +1100)

One of the more uncertain teams in the NFL next season, the 49ers had a surprisingly successful season in 2021 thanks to the grittiness of their players and, of course, some luck. After a tough week nine loss to the Arizona Cardinals, San Francisco’s record stood at a paltry 3-5, but the squad rebounded by winning seven of their last nine games and qualifying for the playoffs at the 11th hour. In the playoffs, the 49ers upset both the Cowboys and Packers, before narrowly falling to the Super Bowl champion Rams in the NFC Conference Championship. While they are certainly riding a ton of momentum going into this offseason, it remains to be seen who the quarterback will be under center next season. If second-year player Trey Lance can come in and make a lot of noise, the 49ers could take the Lombardi back to the Bay.

The Dark Horse: Green Bay Packers (Odds: +1200)

Perhaps the biggest wild card on our list, the Packers’ Lombardi hopes hinge on whether or not quarterback Aaron Rodgers decides to come back to Green Bay. If he does decide to not lace it up next season for Green Bay, then the Packers will be out of title contention. However, if Rodgers does decide to come back for perhaps his swan song season, then the Pack will have an excellent chance of winning the NFC North and potentially locking down their first Super Bowl since 2011

Prediction: As many NFL fans know, anything can happen on any given Sunday, but look for the favorite to make history in 2022 as the Buffalo Bills will take home the franchise’s first-ever Super Bowl
