In the 74th season of NASCAR in the United States and the 51st season in the modern era, a couple of riders have distanced themselves from the pack in the chase for the championship. Kicking off back in February of this year, the 2022 NASCAR Cup Series has featured a ton of intense action and thrilling wins. With a stacked roster of racers, a handful of competitors have risen to the top of the leaderboard. They are led by Chase Elliott who currently has 821 points and is over 100 points ahead of the nearest competitor. In addition to Elliott, former NASCAR champions Kyle Busch and Kyle Larson are looking for a return trip to the throne.

For this article, SBS will go into further detail about what each rider brings to the table, who will win the 2022 title and some more notes about wagering on NASCAR.

The No. 1 Contender: Chase Elliott (Odds: +400)

A dominant competitor this season, Elliott has also been one of the most consistent racers in all of NASCAR. With three first place finishes in 2022, the four-time NASCAR Cup Series most popular driver is having another fantastic year. Elliott last won the championship back in 2020 and will look to make more history if he can keep up this torrid pace all the way through November. With 17 total victories, the 26-year-old has also made sure to keep the top of the leaderboard as his main focus as opposed to going all or nothing. In addition to his three victories, he has also notched 11 total top-10 finishes in 2022.

The No. 2 Squad: Ross Chastain (Odds: +650)

Currently in third place in the 2022 NASCAR Cup Series, Chastain is one of the more aggressive drivers on the circuit which has led to wins and feuds. With two career wins, 2022 has been the 29-year old’s best season to date and he will be looking to close the gap on Elliott this fall. In addition to these two wins earlier this season, Chastain has notched eight top-five finishes which is near the top of the leaderboard for all NASCAR drivers

Third Ranked Contender: Kyle Busch (Odds: +675)

One of the most recognizable names in the sport, Busch is a two-time NASCAR Cup Series Champion, last winning the title back in 2019. Currently in eighth place in the NASCAR standings, Busch does have some ground to make up if he wants to catch the leader. The veteran was able to win earlier this year at the 2022 Food City Dirt Race back in April. Also thanks to his crafty savviness, Busch has been able to stick around the top 10 of the leaderboard and is still within striking distance of Elliott.

Final Contender: Clemson Kyle Larson (Odds: +700)

The last racer spotlight on our list, Larson is the reigning NASCAR Cup Series Champion. After winning both the regular and overall titles in 2021, the current title holder is also within striking distance. Currently in fifth place in the NASCAR Cup Series standings, Larson has notched one victory so far this season, coming back in February at the WISE Power 400. A very talented racer, the 30-year old still has some tricks left up his sleeve and is only 29 points away from second place in the NASCAR Cup Series standings.

Prediction: While there is still a lot of season left, Elliott has shown he can rack up wins and high finishes on a consistent basis. With his commanding lead, take the 26-year old to win the 2022 NASCAR Cup Series Championship
