With the Super Bowl in the rearview mirror, Hollywood has turned its sights to one of the biggest spectacles of the year: the 95th Academy Awards. Getting into the spirit, MyBookie has rolled out a variety of betting lines related to the event including odds on categories like Best Actor, Best Picture, Best Director, etc. MyBookie regulars will certainly recognize some of these categories from when the site unveiled its Golden Globes betting markets the other month. For best actor, Brendan Fraser is the favorite for his performance in “The Whale” while Daniel Kawn is the presumptive award winner for Best Director for “Everything Everywhere All at Once.” With so many different categories, MyBookie has something for everyone here.

For this article, SBS will be going over what to expect from the latest news from MyBookie and also other notes about using the website.

Show will feature most amount of first-nominees ever

With 16 first-time Oscar nominees across four acting categories, this event will mark the most first-time nominees in Academy Award history. Some of the main categories were named above, MyBookie features odds on almost every other category at the awards show. This includes the honor for Best Visual Effects which has Avatar: The Way of Water as the presumptive favorite here at -1200. Following that film is the twosome of Top Gun: Maverick (+600) and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. In fact, all three films are sequels and are some of the most acclaimed sequels in cinema history, which is remarkable considering they all came out last year.

Regarding even more production special betting lines, Top Gun: Maverick is the favorite to take home the honor for Best Sound Mixing at -300. Avatar is another contender in this category at +350, along with Elvis (+450) and the latest Caped Crusader film, The Batman, which is a big long shot at +3300. Finally, rounding out the production category betting markets from MyBookie, Babylon has locked down the favored honor for Best Production Design at +125. Avatar is once again featured in this category at +225, while Elvis (+200) is a close second here as well.

Babylon is favorite for best original score at the Oscars

Set against the backdrop of the late 1920s, Babylon tells the story of the rise and fall of multiple characters during Hollywood’s transition from silent to sound motion pictures. Featuring the likes of Brad Pitt, Margot Robbie, and Diego Calva, among others, this film is recognized as the odds-on favorite to win the category for Best Original Score by MyBookie at -250. Babylon leads other notable movies in this area from the Fabelmans (+375) to The Banshees of Inisherin at +425. Indeed with such a remarkable cast, this will be the film’s third total nomination at this year’s Academy Awards ceremony.

Another highly-contested category, the favorite for Best Costume Design is another sequel, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. In addition to the Black Panther sequel, Elvis is a close second in this category at +115 along with Babylon registering as a +1000 dark horse as well. Indeed with so many close categories on this page, there should definitely be some close races worth watching as the night unfolds. With Elvis being a contender for the Best Cinematography category as well at +225, it would appear that there could be a correlation between some of the award categories as well and films stacking up multiple honors throughout.
