We are in the heat of the Major League Soccer season. Things are moving fast as records are set and rumors fly around which players may or may not be coming to the most important soccer league in the United States.
We cover the latest here with our Major League Soccer news roundup.
Hat tricks are the Holy Grail of all aggressive soccer players. To be able to score three goals in a single game crowns you as legendary and a threat to any team, no matter how solid their defense may be. Hat tricks are moments that offensive players will remember forever and will stay as a permanent fixture in their highlight reel.
We can kick that up a notch with the recent news from Hany Mukhtar on the Nashville Soccer Club. In a whopping win against the Chicago Fire, Mukhtar led Nashville in a solid triumph at 5-1. Three of those five goals were his.
Hat tricks are normally noteworthy, if not newsworthy. This one became legendary thanks to the speed at which he was able to score three goals. In just 16 minutes, Mukhtar was able to sink three goals against the Chicago Fire.
This is an MLS record, and he actually did it in just six minutes. His first goal was at 10’, his second at 13’, and he completed the hat trick at 16’.
Gareth Bale, the Welsh soccer player, had long been rumored to be considering a transfer to the MLS. He has decided to stay in Real Madrid for at least another year, though he still has not turned down the option completely for 2022.
This makes sense as he has every incentive to finish his contract there on good terms, and his family has even moved to Madrid. With the departure of Zidane, Bale is feeling better and better about staying on at Real Madrid for at least one more year.
This would have been a big coup for the United States soccer league. Some stars have made the jump from Europe or Latin America, and some are even domestic. We expect more and more news of this type to be bubbling up in the years to come as soccer gains a footing in the United States.
Another example of a star considering a transfer to the MLS is Giovani dos Santos. In this case, it would be a return, rather than a simple arrival.
The Mexican superstar was already an important attacker with the Los Angeles Galaxy. He was much more successful in the United States than he was in Mexico. With the Galaxy, he played 87 games, scored 29 goals, and had 18 assists.
This time, he would be going a bit farther north and playing with the Chicago Fire. They could use a skilled attacker like dos Santos to round out their roster. This is a quickly developing news story.
