The 2023 MotoGP season kicked off earlier this year and the season and now roars into Austin, Texas for the Grand Prix of the Americas at the Circuit of the Americas. In the prior race at the Argentine Republic motorcycle Grand Prix, Marco Bezzecchi took home the title after Álex Márquez won the pole position at the event. With the season being in its infancy, Bezzecchi’s fellow countryman, Francesco Bagnaia, won the season-opening race at the Portuguese motorcycle Grand Prix. However, of all of these drivers, one has stood above the rest – Marc Márquez has won this event in Austin a record-shattering seven times in the past. It remains to be seen though if he can win again after dropping his title last season.
For this report, SBS will be going over what to expect from the top drivers at the Circuit of the Americas, who will win this race, and also more notes about MotoGP wagering.

Recognized as the reigning world champion of MotoGP, Bagnaia has been setting the world on fire with multiple wins since his Grand Prix debut back in 2013. Racing for the Ducati team, the 26-year-old won an amazing seven times last season en route to a world title. He has had scattered success at COTA over the years, including one victory in 2018 when he was racing for the Moto2 circuit. Last year, he finished in fifth place, and in 2021 he was able to lock down a top-three mark by finishing in third.
The current points leader in MotoGP, Bezzecchi is having a very strong start to the 2023 season and has been the most consistent of all the racers. In addition to his first-place finish in Argentina, he was able to notch a third-place mark in Portugal in the season-opening race. One of the youngest racers on the MotoGP circuit, the 24-year-old racked up his first win this year and perhaps it is a sign of more to come. However, in prior seasons at different levels of motorcycle racing, he has never won more than three races in a competitive season.
Currently, in fifth place in the MotoGP standings, Viñales had a great finish at the Portugal race, finishing one place off the leader, but had a setback in Argentina (12th). The Spanish racer is aiming for his first win on the MotoGP circuit since 2021 and has also regressed somewhat since the 2019 season as a whole when he finished in third place overall. That said, he has performed well at COTA, winning the race in 2014 when he was on the Moto2 circuit.
As referenced above, Márquez has had the strongest resume of any racer at COTA, not only on this list but of all time. That being said, he has had a tough start to the 2023 season. His status for the Grand Prix of the Americas is up in the air after retiring in the first race of the season and missing the second Grand Prix in Argentina earlier this April. That said, the 30-year-old is one of the greatest racers of all time with six world championships, his last coming in 2019.
Prediction: This is a loaded field, but Bagnaia is bound to bounce back here and reclaim his seat atop the MotoGP standings.
