The English Premier League season is finally back upon us after a busy summer of soccer at the European Championships and Copa America, with Manchester City looking to make more history as they aim for a fifth consecutive title.

Last year Pep Guardiola’s side sealed their fourth consecutive Premier League title on the final day of the season, becoming the first team ever to achieve the feat in England. But the summer transfer window has seen their rivals strengthen and attempt to close the gap, which will test their resolve and give the players a reason to be hungry again.

We’ll take a look at the upcoming season and preview the season as we provide our best free soccer betting picks to try and earn you some extra cash while you enjoy the action on the pitch.

Manchester City – (+145)

Manchester City come into the season once again as the favorites to be crowned champion, having found success in the last four seasons in a row.

City have added exciting winger Savinho to their squad from Girona to add to their wide options, but have sold World Cup winner Julian Alvarez to Atletico Madrid for an incredible $103.7million and more exits are expected before the transfer window closes on August 30th.

Bernardo Silva has remained despite several links to Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain this summer, while Kevin De Bruyne, Matheus Nunes and Ederson have snubbed interest from Saudi Arabia to stay at the Etihad Stadium. However, there has been little inclination of any further arrivals to come into the club ahead of the deadline, which suggests the squad may be weaker than it was last year.

The team did start the season with a penalty shootout win in the Community Shield last weekend, but it would be mighty impressive if they managed to beat all the competition once again despite not being as strong. With the current odds, it’s probably best to avoid them.

Arsenal – (+185)

With Man City weaker, this may be the best chance Arsenal have to win the Premier League for a long time.

Mikel Arteta’s side led the race for the title for the majority of the season but lost it towards the end after losing at home to Aston Villa to hand their rivals the edge, but they have since moved to strengthen their squad to avoid it happening again.

Goalkeeper David Raya won the Golden Glove award last season and has since made his loan move from Brentford permanent, while Italy international Riccardo Calafiori has joined the club from Bologna after an impressive Euro 2024 tournament.

Several fringe players could move on with Eddie Nketiah and Reiss Nelson tipped to follow Emile Smith Rowe out, but the Gunners will also be able to count on last summer’s signing Jurrien Timber for the first time after he missed the entirety of the last campaign through injury.

At +185 there is sensational value in the team ending their 21-year Premier League title drought, and they are our best pick to do so this season.

Liverpool – (+700)

After several years of success under Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool are preparing for a brand new era at Anfield after the legendary manager departed and was replaced by Arne Slot.

The former Feyenoord boss has come in and had a good impact to begin with, as the Reds won each of their pre-season games including victories over Arsenal and Manchester United while on tour in the United States.

However, the squad hasn’t been strengthened at all this summer with zero first-team arrivals while the club have allowed a few fringe players to leave the club for more regular football elsewhere. There is still time for business to be done before the window closes, but the biggest question mark remains how the top players will perform in a new system.

There have been question marks about the future of Mohammed Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil Van Dijk who are all in the final 12 months of their deal, and the team will need them to be fully motivated to find success. At +700 there is great value in backing them, but the chances of a new manager entering the league and winning it at the first attempt mean this is one to avoid.

Manchester United – (+2200)

Erik Ten Hag survived a summer of speculation about his future after leading the team to a second trophy in two seasons, but also the worst Premier League season in their history.

The team have now added Leny Yoro, Joshua Zirkzee, Matthijs De Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui to the squad in a bid to bolster their options, while Aaron Wan-Bissaka has left and Anthony Martial and Raphael Varane were released when their contracts expired. More arrivals are expected too before the deadline.

The chances of them winning the league for the first time since 2013 are very slim, but they are the team who have strengthened the most among the contenders at the time of writing. At +2200 it may be worth something now, but it’s more likely that this is one to keep an eye on and bet on during the season if things go well.
