Since Adrian Newey’s departure from Red Bull prior to the Miami Grand Prix in May, McLaren has clearly been the top contender on the grid. Lando Norris has emerged as the standout driver. He’s taken the lead role at McLaren, although he has occasionally shared the spotlight with teammate Oscar Piastri. This was particularly apparent after a controversial and unforgettable finish at the Hungarian Grand Prix.
Looking ahead to Austin, there’s little reason to expect anything different. Like Red Bull in the previous two and a half seasons and Mercedes before that, the team with the best car typically requires an unexpected setback to be knocked out of the running. However, the current +110 odds suggest that Norris’s success isn’t as guaranteed as Verstappen’s or Hamilton’s during their dominant runs.
This can be interpreted in two ways. Some may see it as great value on Norris. Others view it as a reflection of the occasional errors he’s prone to during races. Only time will tell. Norris seems poised for another victory, adding more intensity to what has been an exciting championship battle. His last win at the Singapore Grand Prix, where he came close to crashing while in the lead, was a testament to the drama he’s capable of delivering.
In my view, when Verstappen was dominating in the recent past, there was little point in staking at odds such as -500 as he often was. However, now backing the favorite represents far better value and +110 for Norris to win is a good proposition.

Max Verstappen may be on an eight-race winless streak, but his recent second-place finish shows he’s still performing at a high level. With a month now passed since that race, it’s safe to assume that both Verstappen and his Red Bull team have put in significant preparation for the upcoming event in Austin.
