LA Dodgers favorites to win 2024 MLB World Series after landing Shohei Ohtani

The 2024 MLB season is nearly upon us, and with preseason matches underway, it’s time to look ahead to the new season with our latest MLB futures. In the betting to win the 2024 World Series, the Dodgers are favored. But with the Atlanta Braves looking strong and the Texas Rangers looking to defend the championship, LA won’t have it easy.

2024 MLB World Series Futures And Betting Picks

The Atlanta Braves were the opening favorites with the best MLB World Series betting sites. The Braves opened up at +650. But once the LA Dodgers secured the services of Shohei Ohtani on a record-breaking 10-year, $700 million contract, all bets were off.

Overnight, the Dodgers were cut to +300. The signing of Ohtani looks like a game-changer. And the bookmakers had no options but to react.

The Texas Rangers are the current MLB World Series champions. The Rangers secured their first-ever Championship win with a 4-1 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks last fall, giving legendary Bruce Bochy his fourth World Series win as a manager.

So with Bruce Bochy set to lead again in 2024, can the Rangers go back-to-back? Or will it be the heavy-investing Dodgers who win the title again? Let’s take a look at what the best MLB betting sites say.

Betting to win the 2024 MLB World Series

Well, as we alluded to, the betting sites have certainly responded to the Dodgers acquiring Shohei Ohtani. The Dodgers are now slated at just +300 to win the 2024 World Series.

The ever-consistent Atlanta Braves are next in the betting at +500, with the Houston Astros third at +800. Making up the top four in the betting is the New York Yankees at +1000

Now, let’s take a closer look at some of the runners and riders to win the 2024 World Series.

Can the Orioles build on their gains in 2023?

The Baltimore Orioles were one of the surprise packages in 2023, finishing the regular season with a 101-61 record. Gunnar Henderson hit .255 last season with 28 home runs. At 22 years of age, Henderson is only going to get better. If he can produce even better in 2024, the Orioles could be worth a wager.

At the moment, Baltimore is the fifth favorite in the betting to win the World Series at +1200, and they also look a good dark horse pick.

Rangers to defend their title?

The Texas Rangers are fifth in the betting to win the 2024 World Series at odds of +1400. Corey Seager will be key to the Rangers’ chances of winning again. But it’s hard to see them backing up what they did last year in 2024.

Consistent Braves looking for another World Series in 2024

The last time the Atlanta Braves won the World Series was in 2021. In 2023, Atlanta won 104 games, thanks mainly to Ronald Acuna Jr. This consistency wasn’t enough to see them get past Philadelphia in the NLDS.

The Braves have now lost twice in succession to the Phillies at this stage of the season. It’s hard to see it happening three years in succession. The Braves also look a cert to win the NL East.

Moving on from Dusty Baker

The Houston Astros said goodbye to legendary manager Dusty Baker in October 2023. Baker led the Astros to World Series glory in 2022 and the final in 2021.

Despite 2023 not living up to expectations, the Astros are still a force. The bookmakers haven’t made them third favorites for no reason.

New manager Josue Espada has been a coach at the franchise since 2018, so won’t need time to settle. But given this is his first role as a manager, it does remain to be seen how he will do.

Dodgers investing heavily again

In recent years, LA Dodgers fans have become accustomed to underachieving. The acquisition of Shohei Ohtani has again sent expectations through the roof. But what the signing has also done is increased the pressure.

If all goes well, the Dodgers have the roster to win the World Series. But at +300, are they not now a touch too short to back? Wait and hedge the Dodgers during the season is our plan.

Our pick to win the 2024 World Series

One of the few franchises that looked the most settled and secure throughout the 2023 regular season was the Atlanta Braves. They are a banker for the postseason, and this year, we feel they will take the Phillies down if they meet again in the NLDS.

A win in the NLDS will put them with a great chance of winning the World Series again and on a potential collision course with the Dodgers in the NLCS. We think the Braves can do it, and at odds of +500, they are good value.

We make the Atlanta Braves our pick to win the 2024 World Series
