The 2024 NASCAR Cup Series is already moving along and all eyes will be on the top of the leaderboard to see who can take home the championship. The current points leader is Kyle Larson (+500) who is coming off a win at the 2024 Pennzoil 400 in Las Vegas and has a small lead over Ryan Blaney. Per one outlet, in addition to Larson, there are a couple of other racers to keep an eye on. William Byron (+550) is the second-ranked racer and is currently in fourth place in the NASCAR Cup Series standings. Meanwhile, Denny Hamlin (+750) is another fantastic racer who is currently in tenth place but is still a top-three racer per some betting markets. Finally, Chase Elliott is our final racer spotlight and is squarely in the top-ten of the NASCAR Cup Series standings at seventh place currently.

In this report, SBS will be going over what to look for from the top racers, a predicted winner for the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series, and also some more notes about NASCAR wagering.

The No. 1 Contender: Kyle Larson (+500)

The 2021 NASCAR Cup Series champion, Larson is currently in first place in the NASCAR standings following a sensational win in Las Vegas this past week. This was his first win of the season and a spectacular rebound performance following a 32nd-place finish at the Atlanta Motor Speedway the week prior. Of course, race fans are well aware that Larson finished in second place last season in the NASCAR Cup Series and is a consistent contender to win each race that he enters. During the course of last year’s season, he won four races, including two in the NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs.

The No. 2 Driver: William Byron (+550)

Another driver who made the NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs, Byron finished in third place last year in the chase for the Cup. During the course of the early 2024 season, the American driver from Charlotte, North Carolina, has already notched a victory, this coming during the opening race of the season at the 2024 Daytona 500. Since then, Byron has accrued finishes of 17th and, most recently, tenth place in Las Vegas last week. In terms of what he did last year, the racer had a fantastic year, winning six races last year, and ending the season in third place. Of course, while he was unable to secure the title, he still managed to finish near the top of the leaderboard in a variety of races.

The No. 3 Driver: Denny Hamlin (+750)

Our next driver spotlight, Hamlin is having a somewhat slower start to the year but should be able to turn some things around thanks to his veteran guile and savvy. Currently, Hamlin is in tenth place in the Cup Series standings and is aiming for a stronger finish than last year. In 2023, the veteran racer had a sensational season with three wins and a myriad of top-ten finishes. However, he ended up finishing in fifth place in the Cup Series and just narrowly out of the final four in the NASCAR Playoffs field. Of course, if he can have a stronger end of year flourish than he had last season, he would put himself in prime position to potentially win a championship this season.

Final Contending racer: Chase Elliott (+800)

The next and last racer spotlight, Elliott perhaps has the most daunting road in front of any of these racers after finishing in 17th place last season. This was mainly due to him missing seven races last season and sort of taking him out of the Cup Series Playoffs picture early on. Now, with the driver being healthy this season, he should have a great shot of making a run at the Cup Series Championship. In limited races last year, Elliott accrued seven top-five outings, which given the circumstances, was great for a driver who missed a significant amount of the season. Kicking off 2024, Elliott is currently in the top ten of the points standings, but has yet to notch a top-ten finish which should come soon.

Prediction: Another fantastic and wide-open competition, take Larson here to notch the championship in 2024 thanks to his consistent track record of notching victories at a consistent pace.
