For NASCAR fans, the regular season is past its halfway point and drivers are rounding into form in terms of who will be crowned as the 2023 NASCAR Cup Series regular season champion. With that in mind, the NASCAR Series heads to the Nashville Superspeedway this weekend for the Ally 400 and with a handful of drivers aiming for that number one spot. Coming off a win at the Toyota/Save Mart 350, Martin Truex Jr. is now the point standings leader for the NASCAR Cup Series. In terms of familiar faces atop the leaderboard, Kyle Larson is another driver to watch here after notching back-to-back top ten finishes in the last two races held. Finally, a dark horse racer to keep an eye on is Chase Elliott who just posted a top-five finish, but has had an inconsistent season after pulling out of multiple races thus far.
In this report, SBS will be covering what to look for at the 2023 Ally 400, a predicted winner for the race, and also some more notes about NASCAR wagering.
Favorites to Win The 2023 NASCAR Ally 400 | |||
---|---|---|---|
Kyle Larson | +500 | +500 | +500 |
Martin Truex Jr. | +600 | +600 | +600 |
Kyle Busch | +750 | +750 | +750 |
Chase Elliott | +800 | +800 | +800 |
Currently sitting in tenth place in the NASCAR Cup Series standings, Larson needs a big push now to make a run at the NASCAR Playoffs. A driver with two wins on the season, one at Martinsville and the other at Richmond Raceway, the 2021 Cup Series Champion is always a threat to score a victory. With that in mind, he has notched three top-10 finishes in his last five outings, but also two double-digit performances, including a disastrous 30th place finish at the Coca-Cola 600.
As referenced above, Truex Jr. is now the points leader in the Cup Series and has been the most consistent racer to date this season. In addition to his two victories, the NASCAR veteran has accrued six additional top-ten finishes this season. In fact, in his last six outings, he has only finished outside the top ten once.
Coming off back-to-back impressive outings, finishing second at Sonoma Raceway and winning the Enjoy Illinois 300 presented by TicketSmarter, Busch is hitting his season stride it would appear. The only driver to win three races this season (Sonoma, Talladega, and Auto Club), Busch has shown the best propensity for leading from the front. In fact, he is riding a streak of four consecutive top-ten showings.
As mentioned above, even though he is out of contention for the NASCAR Cup Series regular season title, betting outlets still consider Elliott a threat to win at the Ally 400. In the races he has completed this season (he has missed seven so far which explains his points standings), he has finished within the top five three times. While Elliott may not win a Series title this year, he could play spoiler in these later season races.
Prediction: In another wide-open race, take Larson to win here given his need to make a late-season push into the top five.
