Set for this weekend at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway, the Crayon 301 (not to be confused with the coloring utensils) will have big-time NASCAR Cup Series implications. Christopher Bell (+375) is set to defend his title after winning the 2022 race and is slated as one of the favorites again heading into the race on Monday. William Byron (+1200) though is the hot hand heading into this race as both the NASCAR Cup Series points leader and also coming off a win at the Quaker State 400. Two other drivers to look out for in this race are Martin Truex Jr. (+310) and Kevin Harvick (+1000). The former is second in the NASCAR Cup Series standings and the latter is a wiley veteran looking for a push prior to the NASCAR Playoffs.
In this report, SBS will be going over what to look for from each of these contending racers and also more thoughts about NASCAR wagering.
Favorites to Win The 2023 NASCAR Crayon 301 | |||
---|---|---|---|
Martin Truex Jr. | +310 | +310 | +310 |
Christopher Bell | +375 | +375 | +375 |
Kevin Harvick | +1000 | +1000 | +1000 |
William Byron | +1200 | +1200 | +1200 |
Coming off back-to-back poor outings, Truex Jr. is aiming for a big rebound performance at the Crayon 301. In his last two races, the veteran racer finished in 32nd and 29th place after leading the points standings. That said, he has strung together some great performances this season, scoring two wins along with four top-three finishes as well. While only 21 points behind Byron in the standings, he will be looking to close the gap in Loudon.
Currently, in fourth place in the Cup Series standings, Bell is also coming off two disappointing performances, falling outside the top 15 twice (18th and 23rd). However, he still is a consistent racer, notching four top-five finishes this season along with one win at the Food City Dirt Race. While is currently in the top five in the Cup Series, he has not finished inside the top five since his win back in April.
Another racer that is angling for a big outing (Harvick has finished outside the top 20 in the last three races), the veteran is aiming for some late-season momentum heading into New Hampshire. Prior to his skid, the 2020 NASCAR Cup Series regular season champion had put together some impressive performances like a second place at the Goodyear 400 and finishing in fifth place at three other contests. Aiming for his first win of the year, he could be due with some veteran moxie.
Our last racer spotlight, Byron is the current king of NASCAR and has earned the title with four wins and counting on the year. The points leader at 628 total, the 25-year-old has consistently scored well from race to race and, in addition to his four victories, has four other top-five finishes on the year. That said, while he is a great choice for the regular season champion, it is extremely hard to win back-to-back NASCAR races in one season.
Prediction: Another wide-open race, look for the veteran Harvick to break through and score his first win of the year here.
