Super Bowl LIX: Kansas City Chiefs v Philadelphia Eagles information

Kansas City Chiefs season so far

After going back-to-back with Super Bowl wins last year Kansas set their goal to making history, and they’re now just one game away from completing their task after a fantastic campaign.

Despite a few questionable performances and a bit of luck, the Chiefs started the season with a sensational 10-0 run that saw them only allow more than 20 points on two occasions. But that run was ended by the Buffalo Bills in Week 11, as Buffalo earned a 30-21 win at home.

The Chiefs responded to that perfectly though by going on another six-game winning run to claim their spot as No.1 seed. Despite a humiliating 38-0 loss to the Denver Broncos on the final regular season game, they rested most of their players and switched into playoff mode.

Kansas then took on the Houston Texans in their playoff game and cruised to what looked like a routine 23-14 win, although a huge fourth-quarter and some questionable referee calls helped them on their way. That set up an AFC Championship game against the Bills to claim a 32-29 win late on and put them on the brink of history.

Philadelphia Eagles season so far

Philadelphia have been considered as one of the best teams in the entire NFL in recent years and they’ve proven why this season, with a fantastic 14-3 record before reaching another Super Bowl.

A slow start saw them open the campaign 2-2 before a bye week, and after that they clicked into gear with ten straight wins and 12 wins from their next 13 games to win the NFC East.

They came up against the Green Bay Packers in the Wild Card round, where a top defensive performance saw them not concede a single point in the first half en route to earning a 22-10 victory, besting their efforts from the 2023 season.

That set up a clash with the Los Angeles Rams and despite what looks like a comfortable 28-22 victory on the scorecards, it was far from it. The Rams had the chance to score a touchdown in the final minute of the game only for a massive Jalen Carter sack to give them back the momentum and put them in the NFC Championship game.

There they took on an overachieving Washington Commanders team and put on a show with a dominant display that saw them cruise into a second Super Bowl clash with the Chiefs thanks to a 55-23 win, hitting double-figure points in three of the four quarters.

After their regular season defeat to the Bills, many people were expecting Patrick Mahomes and co to fall at the penultimate hurdle of history, and yet they proved everyone wrong yet again.

Head coach Andy Reid is proving to be one of the all-time greats, and it’s fair to say he has the advantage over his opposite number Nick Sirianni – stretching back to his appointment as Eagles boss in 2021.

The teams have met three times in that time, including at the Super Bowl LVII where the Chiefs claimed the win, and they lead the mini-series 2-1. The Eagles did win their most recent meeting though, in November 2023.

Despite how good Jalen Hurts has been this season, unfortunately he’s coming up against another all-time great in Mahomes and that means the Chiefs have got the big advantage in the two most key areas. Add to that the fact they’ve been here and done this so often recently, nerves surely won’t affect them.

Psychologically the Eagles will have too much to overcome, especially if they don’t get off to a flying start, and the Chiefs will likely get stronger as they edge closer to a historic win. The value is there to take them to cover the spread again and make it three-in-a-row.

Philadelphia are one of the best and most exciting NFL teams around, and they know how to score points on a regular basis. The Eagles have scored 30+ points seven times this season and have conceded 20+ eight times, so there is scope even if the line moves that the over lands.

The biggest thing in the Chiefs’ historic run in recent years is there ability to stay in games even if they’re not playing well. In fact, they have won the last 17 games in a row that have had just one score separating the teams.

So while the Eagles will be looking to score big, the Chiefs will do everything they can to keep up with them and that suggests lots of points will be scored.

The Eagles have seen seven separate games hit the 50-point mark this season, while Kansas City have seen five hit the mark. There is good value in it happening again, just as it did two years ago, so take it before the line moves.
