UFC men’s middleweight contest overview: Jack Hermansson vs. Joe Pyfer

Fighter Spotlight: Jack Hermansson

Known as “The Joker,” the 35-year-old from Sweden is coming off a disappointing bout against Roman Dolidze at the UFC on ESPN in December 2022 where he lost via TKO (punches). Regardless, he still has an overall record in MMA fights of 23-8 with 11 knockouts and has scored wins over the likes of Kelvin Gastelum and David Branch (Performance of the Night). Moreover, he was the former middleweight champion in Cage Warriors and Warrior Fight Series prior to his time with the UFC. Moreover, he also scored an “Upset of the Year” performance against Ronaldo Souza in 2019. He also has not lost back-to-back fights since 2012-23 when he was in Bellator.

Fighter Spotlight: Joe Pyfer

With a one-inch height advantage over this opponent, Pyfer is riding a five-fight winning streak, including a submission win over Abdul Razak Alhassan at the UFC Fight Night event in October. In fact, in his last five wins, he has scored four TKO/KO victories over his opponents, including at one point a four-KO streak. Since making his technical UFC debut in September 2022, he has scored three consecutive victories and has been riding a hot streak. Moreover, he has not lost since August 2020 as part of Dana White’s Contender Series: Season 4. In his career, he has notched eight knockout wins along with three submission victories as well.

Prediction: An exciting fight, take Pyfer to score the win against Hermansson in the main event. This is due to the former’s age advantage and also his more consistent winning streak as of late.

UFC men’s featherweight contest breakdown: Dan Ige vs. Andre Fili

Fighter Spotlight: Dan Ige

Ige is coming off a unanimous decision loss to Bryce Mitchell at the UFC Fight Night event in September 2023. Before that though, he had strung together two consecutive wins against the likes of Nate Landwehr and Damon Jackson, the latter of which was a knockout Performance of the Night outing. Ige has had an up-and-down career since knocking out Gavin Tucker in March 2021. After that fight, he had a 15-3 record, but since then he has accrued a mark of 2-4 which he is most certainly looking to bolster with this bout against Fili.

Fighter Spotlight: Andre Fili

Ige’s opponent in the fight, Fili is also at a bit of a crossroads with his career with his last eight fights ending in a record of 3-3-1. However, he is coming off an excellent TKO win over Lucas Almeida at UFC 296 with an excellent match ending in a technical knockout via punches in the first round. Tied for the most split decision wins in UFC Featherweight history (three), Ige has a strong penchant for knockouts with 10 such wins in his career. Moreover, he is a capable grappler as evidenced by his career in professional grappling.

Prediction: Another interesting fight, take Ige to win here given his more advanced rest in advance of this bout combined with Fili’s more uneven track record as of late.
