A very exciting fight, Jake Paul is slated to take on Mike Tyson later this month in a fantastic boxing bout at AT&T Stadium in Arlington. This fight was originally scheduled to take place on July 20th of this year but was postponed due to Tyson suffering an ulcer flare-up aboard a plane. That said, the bout is scheduled to go on as planned with Paul looking to build on his impressive 10-1 boxing record. He is coming off an excellent TKO victory earlier this year over Mike Perry which was the replacement for his initially planned Tyson bout. Meanwhile, Iron Mike, his opponent, is easily the most accomplished boxing fighter he has ever faced, albeit very much past his prime at 58 years of age. His last professional bout was back in 2005, but he did have a great exhibition fight against Roy Jones Jr. back in 2020.

For this report, SBS will be going over what to look for from each fighter, along with a predicted winner and even more news and notes regarding boxing updates.

What to look for from: Jake Paul

As noted above, Paul is fresh off an electric victory over Perry which resulted in a sixth-round TKO victory. Billed as “Fear No Man,” this fight saw Paul, notable for his remarkable social media career, taking on the American bare-knuckle boxer and former mixed martial artist Perry. In addition to his matchup with Perry this year, the Problem Child also squared off against Ryan Bourland in Puerto Rico back in March. In a similar fashion, Paul dispatched Bourland in stunning fashion, scoring a first-round TKO victory against his opponent. Currently, he is riding a four-fight winning streak after losing to Tommy Fury via a split decision back in February 2023. Of course, this matchup went the full eight rounds with some experts saying Paul had actually been the victor, so it will be interesting to see how they match up in their eventual rematch but that is for another time.

Going into this fight, Paul has an uphill since this will easily be the most accomplished boxing fighter he has ever faced. That said, he has defied many outsider predictions with his fantastic performances against MMA champions and other professional athletes. Of course, with the bout against Perry in his rearview mirror, this could be a great booster for Paul’s confidence in facing another powerful boxing fighter. Another element to look out for here is if the fight goes longer than six rounds then Paul would certainly have the edge here given his age advantage.

What to look for from: Mike Tyson

A legendary fighter with a career that spanned from 1985 to 2205, Tyson is again scheduled to compete professionally this year. Nicknamed “Kid Dynamite” and “Iron Mike,” he is regarded as one of the greatest heavyweight fighters of all time. During his prime, he reigned as the undisputed world heavyweight champion from 1987 to 1990. Additionally, he holds the record as the youngest boxer ever to win a heavyweight title. Known for his ferocious and intimidating style as well as his controversial style outside of the ring, during his peak he was known as the most terrifying man in boxing. With a professional boxing record of 50 wins, six losses, and two no-contests, he has compiled an amazing career record as an International Boxing Hall of Fame member. Prior to his upset loss to Buster Douglas back in 1990, he had accrued a professional record of 37-0.

With all of this being said, the majority of Tyson’s professional accolades occurred during the 20th century and this will be his first professional contest since 2005. As noted above, there is a huge age disparity between Paul and Tyson, but Iron Mike did look sharp in an exhibition fight against former champion Roy Jones Jr. back in November 2020 which resulted in a split draw. His last two professional fights ended with losses to Kevin McBride and Danny Williams in 2005 and 2004, respectively. Paul has a height advantage over Tyson by two inches and is 31 years his junior.

Fight Prediction

A stellar bout, if this fight goes the distance, Paul should have the advantage, but there does exist the possibility of Tyson scoring an upset knockout victory here. Regardless, Paul is the pick here to score the victory in this fight over the legend
