Following an exciting 2024 season, Major League Baseball is set for the 2025 regular season just around the corner and Everygame has some updated markets. For this report, SBS will be going over some analysis of the Everygame futures market on the 2025 National League Most Valuable Player Award and which players have the early track on potentially taking home this honor. Per the site, Everygame has identified a handful of athletes that stick out as perhaps the best in the NL with Los Angeles’ Shohei Ohtani leading the way at +175. Additionally, there are of course some other stalwarts on this list that could make a run, including Juan Soto of the New York Mets (+550), Fernando Tatis Jr. (+750) of the San Diego Padres, and fellow Dodger Mookie Betts (+1200). In fact, Everygame has an expansive list of candidates beyond these four.

For this article, SBS will be going over what to look for from the latest gaming news and notes coming from Everygame along with some additional notes and info coming from the site.

Ohtani is looking to continue torrid professional pace

An elite player, Ohtani’s contributions on the field are spectacular. Because of his prowess as a hitter and as a pitcher, a rarity as a two-way player, his prime seasons have been considered among the greatest in baseball history per sources. Additionally, some have compared his time favorably to the early career of Babe Ruth. Unable to pitch in 2024 while recovering from a second elbow injury, Ohtani played as a DH for the Dodgers. He then became the first player in MLB history to record 50 home runs and 50 stolen bases in a season and was unanimously named the 2024 National League MVP. Additionally, he and the Dodgers won the 2024 World Series in his first MLB postseason appearance.

Starting his career with the Nationals, Soto is one of the game’s brightest stars. After being traded to the Padres at the 2022 trade deadline, he was then dealt to the Yankees following the 2023 season. In his lone campaign with the Bronx Bombers, he reached the 2024 World Series and finished third in AL MVP voting. After becoming a free agent for the first time in his career this past offseason, Soto signed a 15-year, $765 million contract with the Mets, the largest contract in professional sports history. He has accrued a variety of accolades in his career, being denoted as a five-time Silver Slugger Award winner and a four-time All-Star.

These two have the inside track of who will be the next MVP in 2025, but there are a host of other contenders to look out for. They are covered in the next section

Tatis among the notable NL MVP dark horses in 2025

Another exceptional player, Tatis made his MLB debut in 2019. In the following campaign, he won the Silver Slugger Award and then would sign a 14-year, $340 million contract extension before the 2021 season. The following season he was named an All-Star and a second Silver Slugger Award, before missing the 2022 season due to an injury. In 2023, he scored the Platinum Glove Award and was also named an All-Star for the second time in his career. As the centerpiece of the Padres organization, Tatis has an opportunity to go to another level this year if he can of course keep his eyes on the prize and San Diego can somehow get past mighty L.A.

The number of accolades in Betts’ career is also remarkable. An eight-time All-Star, seven-time Silver Slugger Award winner, six-time Gold Glove Award winner, and a three-time World Series champion, Betts also won the AL MVP in 2018. Additionally, he is also second in Wins Above Replacement (WAR) among active position players, behind only Mike Trout. Often regarded as one of the greatest players of his generation and of all time, the Dodger is perhaps on the downside of his prime but is still a fantastic force in the game.

In addition to these fantastic stars, there are a couple of other players to keep an eye on, at least according to the Everygame rankings. This includes the likes of Bryce Harper (+1600), Ronald Acuna Jr. (+1600), and also Kyle Tucker at +1400. While there are definitely situations where a dark horse candidate can steal the show, it would be interesting to see what happens in this situation with such a top-heavy lineup. That said, the 2025 season is shaping up to be a fun one with so much star power.
