For those that are big NFL fans in Vegas and Nevada, Circa Sports has a big surprise for you this upcoming football season. Per a report from the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Circa Sports is raising the prize game again on its NFL handicapping contests. The article notes that after increasing the guaranteed prize money for its Circa Million and Circa Survivor contests from $10 million in 2021 to $12 million last year, the ante has been upped even more. Now, the downtown sportsbook this year is sweetening the pot to a record $14 million according to the article and from Circa Sports in Las Vegas. Moreover, the $1,000 entry Million V will again feature $6 million in guaranteed payouts, while the $1,000 Survivor will feature an $8 million guaranteed payout (this increased from $6 million last year).
In this report, SBS will be going over the latest gaming news coming out of Las Vegas while also sharing some more notes about Sin City gaming.
In the article from the LVRJ, Circa casino owner Derek Stevens had some insights into growing this promotion.
“We really want to grow the largest football contests ever. We want them to be a key part of the Circa Sports brand,” Stevens said. “I think these football contests are great for Circa Sports and great for Las Vegas.”
The article notes that the Million V contest will need 6,000 entries to meet the guarantee, and Survivor will need 8,000 entries to meet its guarantee. This has not been an issue in the past as last year, Circa Survivor beat its $6 million guarantee with 6,133 entries. Contestants in this contest pick one straight-up NFL winner (with no point spreads involved) each week but can use each team only once. Stevens also noted that the company wanted to bump up Survivor since they surpassed the guarantee last year.
However, not everything has been smooth sailing when it comes to sportsbook guarantees at Circa. Last year, for instance, the Circa Million IV came up short on the $6 million guarantee with 4,691 entries per the LVRJ report. In this case, that resulted in a $1.3 million “overlay” for bettors that was paid for by the books. Entrants in this contest then make five NFL picks against the spread each week. Stevens noted that since they did not hit the guarantee last year, they are going to keep it the same so they can avoid another overlay situation.
In the Survivor promotion with Circa, contestants can purchase up to 10 additional entries if they lose their original entries on the opening “Thursday Night Football” game per the LVRJ article. An entrant cannot then go into the Saturday deadline with more than 10 active entries. Moreover, Circa has increased the maximum amount of entries allowed in each contest, from three to five in Million and from six to 10 in Survivor. Last season’s Circa Million IV champion finished 59-26-5 ATS, while the booby prize winner went 29-55-6 ATS.
