The Sky haven’t had a good season so far in the opening month, accumulating a record of 4-9 to this point.
They opened their season with a disappointing 87-79 defeat to Dallas before claiming revenge in the very next game thanks to a 83-74 victory, with Marina Mabrey and Diamond DeShields shining respectively. Those results were followed up with a 90-81 win over New York Liberty.
Then came back-to-back defeats against Conneticut Suns and Seattle Storm, before the Sky got back to winning ways against the Los Angeles Sparks with Mabrey top scoring with 21 points.
But Chicago have gone 1-6 in their last seven games across the month of June, with their only victory coming back on June 6 as they beat Washington Mystics 79-71. That win came sandwiched between defeats to Indiana Fever (2), New York Liberty, Atlanta Dream, Washington Mystics and Conneticut Suns.
Only one of those wins came by via a double-digit margin, suggesting they’re close to getting results, and they’ll be keen to put that right in this game.
Dallas will be the opposition in Chicago on Thursday afternoon, and they will rock up to the Wintrust Arena with a 3-10 record for the season so far.
After exchanging a win and loss with Chicago in the opening two games, they were beaten in game three by Atlanta in a close-fought game. They followed that up with a huge win over Phoenix Mercury in game 4 as they scored 107 points, with star player Arike Ogunbowale hitting a season-high 40 points in the game, before a second consecutive win over LA Sparks.
Since then it has all gone downhill though, with the Wings losing all seven games in June up to this point.
Minnesota Lynx (2), Las Vegas Aces, Los Angeles Sparks, Phoenix Mercury, Seattle Storm, and Conneticut all outscored Latricia Trammell’s side, and they need to find a way to make changes and move away from their over-reliance on Ogunbowale – who has been their top scorer in every game bar their last two.
It’s not often that two teams in absolutely horrendous form meet each other in the midst of a horror run, but that is what is happening in this game.
Angel Reese is beginning to find her feet for the Sky, averaging 12.1 points per game, 10.2 rebounds per game and 2.1 assists per game from 13 games, but it’s the brilliant Mabrey who is standing out the most with 14.8 point per game, 5.6 rebounds and 4.2 assists on average.
Elizabeth Williams will definitely miss the game through injury, but Chicago have been given a huge boost with Ogunbowale listed as questionable with an achilles injury for Dallas.
Her average of 24.9 points per game will be heavily missed and the roster isn’t deep enough to cope without her in reality. With home advantage in their favor, Chicago should be able to get back to winning ways after four straight defeats and start trying to build some momentum.
At -150 there is solid value in the bet and it is well worth backing.

The bookmakers have absolutely got the line on this one spot on, but the over 162.5 point total seems like the bet to make in this instance.
In Chicago’s 13 games this season seven of them have seen that total surpassed, while eight of Dallas Sky’s 13 games have surpassed the total. Both teams have also seen seven of their 13 games this season surpass the set total points mark for the over to land, and there’s no reason to believe it won’t land again here.
With Ogunbowale potentially missing the game it could harm the Wings’ offense, but it should also allow for everyone else to step up and improve their own tallys.
The two games between these teams earlier in the season saw the total beaten once and missed once, so it’s not something to look at. But with -110 odds, the value is in backing it to land since it seems to do so more often than not.
