Leaving Austin, Verstappen strengthened his lead in the Drivers’ Championship, now 57 points ahead of Norris, with five rounds left. Lando Norris had been steadily closing the gap on Max Verstappen in the championship battle leading up to last weekend. However, despite his commanding 20-second victory at the Singapore Grand Prix in his previous outing, Norris never seemed like a serious contender for the win in Texas.
He secured his sixth pole position of the year, albeit somewhat fortuitously, as Verstappen had to abandon a quicker lap. But for the fifth time this season, Norris was forced out of the lead on the opening lap.
