Carlos Alcaraz is having a dream 2024. Already the Spaniard has picked up two Grand Slam men’s singles titles at the French Open and Wimbledon. The young Spaniard now has the opportunity to add a Paris Olympic gold medal to his list of achievements in 2024, and in our latest Olympics betting picks, we tell you if he will do it.
Carlos Alcaraz is +165 to win the men’s Gold Medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Second in the betting is Jannik Sinner at +275, with Novak Djokovic at +300, Alexander Zverev at +500, and Rafa Nadal at +800.
It’s hard to see the winner coming from outside the top five, but one thing to bear in mind is the format at the Olympics is the same as the one used on the ATP Men’s Tour. The matches are three-set encounters only, with seven-point tie-breakers used to decide any sets that go the distance.
The slightly shorter format brings the field slightly closer together and means that there is no room for five-set epic comebacks for anyone.

Carlos Alcaraz is on fire at the moment. The young Spaniard has been described as a combination of Rafa Nadal, Roger Federer, and Novak Djokovic, all rolled into one. That’s high praise indeed.
Alcaraz lived up to his billing as the next great thing by beating Novak Djokovic on the grass of Wimbledon in five sets in 2023. But after that, the youngster regressed slightly, losing a semi-final at the 2023 US Open and the quarter-final stage of the 2024 Australian Open.
During this time, Novak Djokovic picked up his 24th Grand Slam title by winning the 2023 US Open, and Jannik Sinner won his first Grand Slam at the Australian Open. Sinner also leapfrogged Alcaraz in the tennis world rankings to become the World No.1. A position the 22-year-old Italian still holds today.
All of a sudden Alcaraz wasn’t the be-all and end-all. What was happening to his career?
Then on a Friday afternoon at Roland Garros, Alcaraz was trailing Jannik Sinner in the semi-final of the 2024 French Open. The Italian No.1 was about to hand Alcaraz another defeat in the latter stages of a Grand Slam.
Suddenly, Alcaraz found another gear from somewhere, and from 2-1 down in sets, produced some of the best tennis of his career to come back and beat Sinner in a five-set thriller. The Spaniard then went on to defeat Alexander Zverev in the same manner in a five-set final.
Not content with his first win on the clay of Roland Garros, Alcaraz also went on to win Wimbledon a few weeks later. The significance of this is how it was done.
The Paris Olympics were on clay, and Wimbledon was on grass. But on the grass of SW19, Alcaraz brutally dismantled Novak Djokovic in three sets to retain the title. It’s hard to recall Djokovic losing a match in such a manner in his career.
The significance? Djokovic is one of the favorites to win the Olympics. He has never won a Gold medal in the singles at the Games. It is the one major honor available in men’s tennis to have eluded Djokovic. And after his thrashing at Wimbledon, he must wonder if he has the beating of Alcaraz.
Novak Djokovic is still competing with the best. At least he was, until the final at Wimbledon. No one has more mental strength than Novak Djokovic.
But even the great Djokovic will need to dig deep and go somewhere he has never been before to find the mental fortitude to come back from his Wimbledon thrashing and beat Alcaraz.
Also looking for Olympic gold is Rafael Nadal. The 38-year-old won the single’s gold medal in Beijing in 2008. He has an unbelievable record at Roland Garros with 14 French Open wins, with the last coming in 2022.
Nadal skipped Wimbledon to prepare for the Olympics. He is targeting another gold.
Jannik Sinner would have been wounded by his loss to Carlos Alcaraz at the French Open. Things didn’t improve much for him at Wimbledon, where he crashed out of the competition at the quarter-final stage.
The Italian didn’t look right in his five-set loss to Danill Medvedev, and it’s hard to see him finding the level that will likely be required to beat Alcaraz in Paris.
It’s a simple call for us. Carlos Alcaraz has inflicted mortal blows on Jannik Sinner and Novak Djokovic in recent weeks. It’s very hard to see either of them defeating the Spaniard when he is in this mood.
Alcaraz is driven. The Olympics have come at the perfect time, and he knows he is playing well enough to win the gold medal. He can throw all his resources at this event, safe in the knowledge that he can make another assault on the US Open in 2025 if he blows himself out winning the gold in Paris.
Carlos Alcaraz is our pick to win the 2024 Paris Olympics men’s gold medal.
