While the majority of major sporting events are postponed due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the German Bundesliga, German soccers top division, has resumed giving you plenty of opportunities to bet on the weekends matches and futures. Here are the bets you should be making this weekend
The question on everyones lips is when Bundesliga will start. The answer to that is May 16. The German government is happy with the safety measures the clubs have put in place and is allowing the season to resume. This gives you soccer-loving sports bettors more choice when it comes to betting on soccer.
Bovada, where you can grab a $250 welcome bonus, is just one of our sports betting partners that has the latest Bundesliga match odds and futures bets. Weve cast our eye over the upcoming fixtures and selected our best Bundesliga bets for you.
What is Bundesliga is a question you may be asking yourself right now. It may sound like a minor league competition, but its the top soccer division in Germany. Think along the lines of the Premier League but only it takes place in Germany.
Some of the best soccer teams in the world compete in the Bundesliga, including Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund. These are the top two teams in the division and they tend to win most of the German trophies.
Other teams such as Red Bull Leipzig and Borussia Dortmund are also good teams who play second fiddle to the top two but who tend to destroy lesser opposition.
Just in case youre wondering what does Bundesliga mean. It literally translates to “Federal League” meaning the entire country of Germany has the possibility to play in it should they gain promotion.
Predicting the first round of fixtures since the COVID-19 lockdown is a tricky affair because all the Bundesliga teams have had a couple of months away from the field. That said, there best Bundesliga teams still have the better players and should, in theory at least, win their respective matches.
First up is Borussia Dortmund versus FC Shalke 04 which takes place on May 16. Dortmund at -180 with Bovada to win this fixture and it should be relatively straight forward for them.
Dortmund is currently second in the table, only four points off top spot. Their home form is superb with nine victories, three draws, and no defeats. Theyve scored 41 goals and conceded only 10.
Schalke is sixth in the Bundesliga but their away form is poor. Four wins, four draws, and four defeats show how inconsistent they are. Only managing 15 goals is also a worry for their fans. They are, however, quite tight in defense with 18 goals conceded across those 12 games.
We like a straight bet on Dortmund here at -180 but have one eye on the -1.0 spread which prices Dortmund at an attractive -105.
Were also going for RB Leipzig to resume their winning ways when they host SC Freiburg on May 16. Leipzig was unbeaten in seven-game, scoring 13 goals and conceding only once. Two of these victories came against Premier League giants Tottenham Hotspur in the UEFA Champions League who they beat 1-0 away and 3-0 at home.
Freiburg isnt a bad team, but they have a poor record at Leipzigs stadium. Their last three trips there have ended in a 2-1, 4-1, and 4-0 defeat. Back Leipzig at -305 or consider the -1.5 spread on Leipzig at -105.
Our third selection is Bayern Munich (-450) to beat Union Berlin (+1300) away from home on May 17. Bayern is always clear favorites to win their Bundesliga matches because they are just so good.
Union Berlin is competing in their first-ever Bundesliga and while they are mid-table, Bayern is just too strong for them. They gave a good account of themselves in the reverse fixture but fell to a 2-1 defeat. Bayern cruised to victory without having to step up their game.
The final leg of our four-team parlay is the one thats a little closer to call. Weve gone for an away victory by Borussia Monchengladbach against Eintracht Frankfurt. Monchengladbach should get the job done at +135 but it wont be an easy task.
The away team doesnt score many goals away from home, while Frankfurt is solid on their own soil; its their dreadful away form that seems them hovering in 13th place. It could be worth locking in the Draw No bet on a Monchengladbach victory at -145 if youre uncertain about this fixture.
Bovada also has some interesting Bundesliga futures bets that are worth looking at. You can bet on the eventual winner of the Bundesliga title, the winner without the favorite, who will be relegated, and which player will score the most goals.
The clear favorite for the title is Bayern Munich at -600. They are the best team, have a four-point cushion at the top of the table, and the biggest squad of players to cope with the now busy schedule. Theres not much value in backing them because of the -600 odds. Instead, back Borussia Dortmund to win at -150 with Bayern Munich taken out of the equation.
Its similar in the relegation stakes. Paderborn are -3333 and theres no value at all there. Theyre certainly doomed. SV Werder Bremen, one of the former giants of German soccer, is a better bet for relegation at -250.
As for the top scorer, look nowhere but Bayerns Robert Lewandowski. Hes -500 to top the scoring charts as he does every year. hes already scored 25 goals, four more than Tino Werner (+300). Werner does have a chance if Lewandowski gets injured, but its a big if. Avoid everyone else in the betting stakes.
