Nearing the final turn of the 2024 college football regular season, a quartet of MAC schools are ready for two big battles on Tuesday night. In the first highlighted matchup of the day, Toledo travels to Akron for a battle with the Zips as the Rockets aim to end the regular season with a flourish and even bigger bowl game aspirations. Meanwhile, winless Kent State heads to upstate New York for a showdown with the frisky 7-4 Bulls. The Golden Flashes are looking for their first win of the year as they currently sit at 0-11. The Bulls meanwhile have a MAC conference record of 5-2 which leaves them with an outside chance of heading to the title game should things break their way.

For this article, SBS will be taking a close look at each of these MAC games along with a predicted winner in both matchups along with more notes about NCAA football wagering.

NCAA Football Game One Overview

Team Spotlight: Toledo Rockets

Coming into this contest, Toledo is fresh off a disappointing 24-7 outing against Ohio where the Bobcats won soundly, 24-7 at the Glass Bowl. Nonetheless, the Rockets have a fine passing attack highlighted by quarterback Tucker Gleason and his 2,168 passing yards and 20 passing scores. They of course will look to rebound from last week’s disappointing effort as Ohio scored 24 unanswered points in the second half against the Rockets. Gleason was stymied in this contest as he only accounted for 136 passing yards and one score. Nonetheless, this Toledo team still has seven wins to its credit this season and could be in a prime position to rebound against the Zips. Finally, the Rockets have not lost back-to-back games this season and are 3-0 following losses.

Team Spotlight: Akron Zips

Akron is a squad that can put up some strong offensive numbers but its defense has left it in some precarious spots this season. Quarterback Ben Finley has accounted for 2,410 passing yards this season while running back Jordan Simmons has been solid on the ground with 664 rushing yards to date. Wide receiver Adrian Norton is another player to watch with almost 1,000 (831) receiving yards to date. Additionally, the Zips are coming off a solid win over winless Kent State, 38-17, but might have their hands full with the high-powered Rockets even at home.

Prediction:

This matchup might be closer than many might think, but take Toledo to rebound here on the road. Of course, the Rockets might falter in this matchup given the away environment, but they are no doubt eager to rebound here.

NCAA Football Game Two Overview

Team Spotlight: Kent State Golden Flashes

In a season to surely forget, Kent State is trying to avoid a winless campaign in 2024. This season, there have been few bright spots for the Golden Flashes but wide receiver Chrishon McCray has been having a solid campaign with 705 receiving yards and nine scores. While Kent State could have a fortunate game against the Buffaloes, they have just struggled as of late, losing their last five games by double-digits. This includes a 41-0 thrashing at the hands of Ohio who Buffalo also lost to, but that game was on the road for the Bulls. Nonetheless, games like this are what make #MACtion a captivating and unpredictable event.

Team Spotlight: Buffalo Bulls

Headlined by quarterback C.J. Ogbonna (16 passing scores and 2,051 passing yards), the Bulls are winners of three straight and aiming to keep their conference title hopes alive with a win at home. In its last three games, Buffalo has knocked off Eastern Michigan (37-20 on the road), Ball State (51-48 in overtime), and also Akron on the road, 41-30. Of course, the Bulls would not be wise to overlook the Golden Flashes, but Buffalo has had another solid campaign this season thanks to some balanced playmaking. Running back Al-Jay Henderson is another one to watch as he has racked up 774 rushing yards and seven scores this year to date.

Prediction:

Kent State faces a huge uphill battle here and Buffalo is aiming for a conference title game bid so take the strong Bulls to score the win at home
