The presidential election is one of the biggest events, not just in the United States but across the globe, a recent report from Bovada notes. Every four years, the world tunes in to see who will be the next US president. Ahead of the 2028 election, you can bet on which candidate you think will win the vote. Recently, the outlet shared who it thinks has the best chance of becoming president in 2028. Ahead of this event, Bovada tabbed the following candidates as contenders for the presidential seat: JD Vance (+250), Josh Shapiro (+1100), Donald Trump Jr. (+1400), and Gavin Newsom (+1400). Of course, each of these notable political figures has something to bring to the table, and below, SBS will dive into what the 2028 presidential election landscape looks like.

In this article, SBS will be going over what to look for from the latest gaming news and notes coming from the world of Bovada, as well as some additional thoughts on the site and more.

Sitting Vice President Vance has the pole position in race

Current Vice President Vance is the leading contender for the 2028 U.S. presidential election with +250 odds per the Bovada report and its site. This suggests that a $100 bet on Vance would yield a $250 profit if he wins. However, these odds are subject to change as the political landscape evolves in the lead-up to the election. Per multiple sources, after initially opposing Donald Trump’s candidacy in the 2016 election, Vance became a strong Trump supporter during his first presidency. He won the 2022 United States Senate election in Ohio, beating Democratic nominee Timy Ryan. Vance would later serve as Ohio’s senator from January 2023 to January 2025, and in July 2024, Trump selected Vance as his running mate before the Republican National Convention. Of course, Trump and Vance won the election, making Vance the third-youngest vice president in U.S. history.

Meanwhile, Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro currently sits with +1100 odds to win the 2028 U.S. presidential election and is the current favorite from the Democratic Party to win. As a member of the Democrats, he was the attorney general of Pennsylvania from 2017 to 2023 and was on the Montgomery County Board of Commissioners from 2012 to 2017. In the 2022 Pennsylvania gubernatorial election, Shapiro ran unopposed in the Democratic primary and defeated Republican nominee Doug Mastriano in the general election by a “wide margin.” Nonetheless, Shapiro has faced criticism from across the political spectrum. The political left has criticized his strong support of Israel and corporate tax cuts, while the political right has opposed his strict enforcement of COVID-19 lockdown measures.

Trump Jr. and Newsom are the other political dark horses

Also noted on the Bovada site, Trump Jr. is a dark-horse contender to assume the presidency in 2028 potentially. An American businessman, Trump Jr. is the eldest child of sitting U.S. president Donald Trump and his first wife, Ivana Trump. Currently, Don Jr. serves as a trustee and executive vice president of the Trump Organization, running the company alongside his younger brother, Eric. Additionally, he also served as a boardroom judge on the reality TV show featuring his father, The Apprentice, and is the author of two books.

Meanwhile, Gavin Newsom is another name to watch in this upcoming political cycle, serving currently as the 40th governor of California. A member of the Democratic Party, he served from 2011 to 2019 as the 49th lieutenant governor of California and from 2004 to 2011 as the 42nd mayor of San Francisco. While he certainly has had a successful political career, during his governorship, Newsom has faced some backlash. This includes criticism for his personal behavior and leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic, imposing strict lockdown measures considered overly restrictive and economically damaging to the state while also flouting his own administration’s guidelines personally. Additionally, controversies and frustration with his leadership contributed to an unsuccessful recall effort in 2021, and he was reelected in 2022.

Much still left to be decided for the 2028 election race

While Bovada just recently unveiled these markets, there are still a lot of different variables and x-factors to be decided for the 2028 election, especially with this current regime. This, of course, includes the performance of the sitting president along with seeing how Vance takes a more active leadership approach. He is the front-runner for a reason, as vice presidents typically perform well as successors to the presidency, but should things go sour, the betting odds will adjust accordingly.
