The Olympic Games feature the best in the world in all kinds of disciplines from gymnastics to basketball. With that in mind, perhaps some of the most exciting events are on the track in the form of sprinting events. Adding to the intrigue, BetUS has a variety of betting markets related to these events with everything from the 200-meter final to the 4x100M relay to the quarter-mile event (400M). Per the site, the current 200M favorite is America’s brash and talented Noah Lyles (-345) who has been sensational for many years in the discipline. Meanwhile, Great Britain’s Matthew Hudson-Smith (+100) is the slight favorite over the USA’s Quincy Hall (+200) in the 400 meters. Of course, the talented Americans (-133) have their work cut out for them in the 4 x 100M relay with long-time rival Jamaica (+3.75) looking to unseat the favorites.

In this report, SBS will be exploring the latest gaming news and betting markets coming from BetUS along with more notes about the website.

Lyles is aiming for Olympic history in the sprints

For track and field fans, the American Lyles is the new face of sprinting and has the personality and ego for the top spot. Of course, while some might be turned off by his outlandish antics (his press conferences have gone viral at times), there is no denying how talented he is, especially at the 200 meters. His personal best of 19.31 seconds in the 200 is the American record, which makes him the third fastest of all time in this event. Moreover, he is the 2020 Olympic bronze medalist and a three-time world champion in the event. He is currently seeking a rare double gold medal finish at this year’s Olympics with the 100 and 200-meter races. His achievements last year made him the first man to complete the spring treble at a World Championships since Usain Bolt in 2015 per sources.

While Lyles certainly has the talent to win, he needs to be laser-focused and not overlook his competition. The anime fan (he brought out various Yu-Gi-Oh! Cards during the U.S. Trials), will be hard to beat if he is locked in. Per BetUS, his main foe in this competition will be teammate Kenneth (Kenny) Bednarek (+500). Hailing from Rice Lake, Wisconsin, he won the silver medal at the 2020 Summer Olympics and also at the 2022 World Championships. A former NJCAA National Champion in both the 200 and 400 meters, “Kung Fu Kenny” as he is known for his “Rambo-like tie” he wears around his head during races, is a talented athlete.

Meanwhile, another athlete to look out for in this race is Botswana’s Letsile Tebogo (+700) who is the silver medalist from the 2023 World Championships in the 100 meters and the bronze medalist in the 200.

Great Britain’s Hudson-Smith is the favorite in 400 meters

According to BetUS, the man to beat in the 400 meters at the 2024 Games is GBR’s Hudson-Smith (+100). A decorated runner, he holds a personal best time of 43.74 seconds in the event which is also the British and European records in the quarter mile. Moreover, he was the 2018 European Champion in 400 meters and a member of the gold-winning teams in the 4 x 400 meter relay at various European and Commonwealth Games. Regarding the World Championships, he won the silver medal at the 2023 event and the bronze at the 2022 World Championships in Eugene. His main competition here will be USA’s Hall who is coming off a gold medal performance at the 2023 World Championships in Budapest where he was part of the winning 4×400 meter relay team. Also at this event, he won the bronze in the quarter mile.

The reigning champions in the 4 x 100 meters, Italy has steeper odds here to repeat at +750 due to the brilliance of the American and Jamaican squads. In the past, the USA and Jamaica have dueled with each other with the latter getting the better of the Americans in the 21st century. While the Americans have the most medals and golds overall in this event, Jamaica won the prior two gold medals at the 2016 and 2012 games. That said, the Americans certainly have a ton of star power and won the gold medal at the 2023 World Championships with the squad of Lyles, Fred Kerley, Christian Coleman, and Brandon Carnes leading the way with a fantastic time of 37.38. They have had some malfunctioning handoffs in the past, so perhaps this is the year they turn the corner.
