As covered in this space before, BetUS has explored all kinds of betting markets before but venturing into the internet culture space is newer territory. Per its website, in response to the ongoing Reddit API pricing change controversy and its impact on the tech world, BetUS has introduced a new innovative betting market for the occasion. This particular betting forum is focused on the possible outcomes of this unfolding situation and “yes, customers can now bet on how the Reddit drama will play out.” Per the main BetUS site, betting markets can be quite accurate in their predictions as they pool the wisdom of the crowd, which, according to the site, can be surprisingly insightful.

For this article, SBS will be going over what to look for from the latest news coming from BetUS and also some more notes about using the website.

BetUS touts Reddit situation as shaping betting landscape

According to the main BetUS press page, the website is excited to offer this new betting market tailored around the Reddit API situation. “BetUS has always been at the forefront of offering unique and engaging betting options to our users. The Reddit API situation is an excellent example of real-world events shaping the betting landscape.” Tim Williams, Director of Public Affairs for BetUS said. “We believe that this situation, while complex, presents a unique opportunity for both seasoned and casual bettors to engage in a narrative in a new and intriguing way. It’s the intersection of tech culture and sportsbook culture.”

In April of this year, Reddit announced its intentions to charge for its API, a feature of the site that has existed for free since 2008, causing an ongoing dispute. This move would force multiple third-party applications to shut down, including the very popular, Apollo, and threaten accessibility applications and moderation tools

BetUS betting markets also ponder future of Reddit CEO

Per the site, the market at BetUS.com suggests a slight leaning toward Reddit reversing course on its API changes before June 30th, 2023. The odds for this are set at -130, which quotes 13/10 in fractional odds and an implied probability of approximately 57%. Conversely, BetUS.com odds nonetheless indicate a strong possibility of the Apollo App shutting down by the end of June 2023, as its developers have indicated, with odds set at -200.

In addition to the prop bets above, BetUS also has questions regarding the future of Reddit CEO, Steve Huffman. Per the site, BetUS has odds that suggest he is likely to remain in his position through the end of 2023, with odds set at -260. For the same article from BetUS, the site acknowledged that “betting markets, also known as prediction markets, have been used to forecast outcomes in various domains, including politics, finance, and even technology.” Moreover, BetUS has acknowledged they can be quite accurate in their predictions as they pool the wisdom of the crowd, which often can be surprisingly insightful.
