For this article, SBS will be exploring the latest updates coming from BetUS along with some more updated news and information coming from the website.
Also noted in the report, BetUS has Tyson at +235 and Paul as the favorite at -325 in this matchup. Noted on multiple reports, this matchup has been in the works for many months now. On November 3, 2023, it was first initially reported that Netflix was considering streaming a boxing match involving Paul with an unnamed combatant as his opponent. Noted in another report, On March 7, 2024, it was announced that Netflix and Most Valuable Promotions had partnered to host an event headlined by Paul facing former undisputed heavyweight world champion Mike Tyson on July 20 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. At the time, and is still the case, the bout will be streamed globally exclusively on Netflix.
A month later, on April 2nd, Tyson confirmed at the time the fight was to be classified as an exhibition bout and was not set to be recorded on their professional records. In response to rumors of 18-ounce gloves and headgear, one report notes, Tyson said in an interview “not true at all.” He would later clarify, “This is called an exhibition, but if you look up exhibition, you will not see any of the laws that we’re fighting under. This is a fight.” Later that month, Paul confirmed they would be submitting a request to the Texas Combative Sports Program for the bout to be sanctioned as a professional contest.
Moreover, originally, the bout was scheduled to take place on July 20 but was postponed due to Tyson suffering an ulcer flare-up aboard a plane. This event occurred in May, and on the 31st day of that month, it was announced that the fight was postponed per medical advice from Tyson’s doctor, allowing him to recover from the ulcer flareup.
This matchup will be spectacular and intriguing in many ways, especially given the disparities in age, boxing legacy, and also the amount of recent experience for both parties. Noted in one article, the last time Tyson has competed was back in 2020 against Roy Jones Jr. in November. The fight went the full eight (8) rounds and was declared a draw. Specifically, the bout was a split draw and the three judges scored the fight as follows: Chad Dawson (76-76 draw), Christy Martin (79-73 for Tyson), and Vinny Pazienza (76-80 for Jones). Intriguingly, this card also featured Paul squaring off against former NBA player Nate Robinson. Following an aggressive attack by Robinson, Paul was able to score the knockout and was declared the winner by KO at 1:24 of the second round jump starting his boxing career from there.
In the time since that fight, the social media star has scored eight more boxing wins, with his only loss coming to an actual boxer, Tommy Fury, back in February of 2023. Of course, he has made it a point to take on some fantastic professional athletes, notching victories over the likes of MMA stars Nate Diaz, the legendary Anderson Silva, and also Tyon Woodley (twice). Indeed with such bravado and a high-octane nature, Paul might be in for his biggest test yet as he faces one of the greatest heavyweights of all time in November.
Indeed this matchup will be unlike anything he has faced before. While Paul has taken on stars either outside of their typical and/or past their prime, he has never faced a boxer with the pedigree of Tyson. That said, the age disparity between the two – Paul is 27 and Tyson is 58 – will of course be a critical factor.
