There are 11 different NHL games on Monday. That creates a wealth of betting opportunities on the day. However, which bets are most worth getting on? We think we know. If you keep reading, you’ll be privy to our three favorite betting picks on this busy night of NHL action!
Moneyline: Florida Panthers at Buffalo Sabres
This matchup could have huge consequences at the end of the season when the playoff picture is shaking out. That’s because these two Atlantic Division rivals are very much neck-and-neck to determine an eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. The two are currently tied at 44 points a piece (5 points shy of the eight seed), which might explain why the top-used NHL betting sites have the moneyline uber close:
This is the first of a three-game road trip for Florida. This is on top of a four-game road venture shortly before this (in which they split the games). But then again, Buffalo hasn’t exactly proved to be a force when playing in the confines of KeyBank Center. The Sabres are actually on a three-game home-losing skid at the moment.
We like the momentum that Florida enters this game with. The team is up to four wins in their previous six games — the first such streak in two months. That means they’re playing as well as they have all year, which bodes well in this critical matchup. The reigning President’s Trophy holders have had a rough go in the first-half of the season, but we’re betting they can turn things around to a certain extent. It starts here with an outright win for the Panthers.
Moneyline: Dallas Stars at Vegas Golden Knights
This might just be the juiciest matchup of Monday that features two teams vying for supremacy in the Western Conference. Vegas’ 58 points put them No. 1 overall in the conference right now, but Dallas is right behind with 57 points of their own. Therefore, it comes as no wonder that the Dallas-Vegas moneyline is only slightly favoring the home-ice Knights:
This is the first matchup between the two sides this season, which makes making a pick more difficult. But it’s important to evaluate recent performance. The Stars have looked vulnerable since the start of 2023. The team has two different back-to-back losses after doing so only once earlier in the year. The Knights are 3-2 during the same stretch.
But here’s a big variable to account for: life without Mark Stone for the conference leaders. If last year taught us anything, it’s that Vegas is not even close to the same when the team captain isn’t on the ice. Stone missed 45 games a year ago and he just missed his first last time out, a 4-3 defeat to Edmonton. The Golden Knights will once again be without Stone, which leaves them more vulnerable, particularly on defense.
We’re wagering on a Stars upset. A Stone-less Vegas team, even at home, just doesn’t give us that much confidence. Plus, we should note Dallas are road warriors of sorts. They’ve played the second-most road games this year, going a respectable 13-7-4 away from American Airlines Center. We’re betting win No. 14 is on tap Monday against a reeling Golden Knights side.
Over/Under 6.5 goals: Tampa Bay Lightning at Seattle Kraken
Oddsmakers have set a high over/under of 6.5 goals in this clash between the Lightning and the Kraken. Both teams are playing at a high level. Tampa Bay is up to 55 points as they go for a fourth straight trip to the Stanley Cup Finals. Seattle has been one of the big surprises of the NHL season. They’re up to 56 points after a somewhat disastrous expansion season.
This is the second of three matchups between both sides this season. And judging off the first, it’s no wonder why the over is so high. Back in December, the Bolts handed Kraken a 6-2 loss on its home ice. But that was then and this is now as Tampa is on leg two of a five-game road trip on the other side of the country. Moreover, Seattle is coming into this game on an eight-game-winning streak, a franchise record.
We’re expecting points to fly off the board on Monday. Seattle has all the momentum in the world right now, while Lightning aren’t completely worn out yet as it’s early in their road trip. We’re betting they tally at least seven goals together.
