In terms of ATP Masters 1000 events, Alcaraz has performed well at certain events, more than others. This includes an overall mark of 67-22 in ATP 1000 tournaments and also one victory last year at Indian Wells. Additionally, he has played well at the Miami Open in years past, winning the event in 2022, the same year he won the US Open. This year, he has been his usual consistent self, advancing to the semifinals of Indian Wells, before falling surprisingly to Jack Draper. During 2024, he recorded an overall mark of 16-5 in ATP 1000 tournaments and would like to improve his trajectory at the Miami Open, losing in the quarterfinals in 2024 after falling in the semifinals in 2023.
An athlete who is perhaps the best ever in the sport of tennis, the Joker is ready for another run at a Miami Open title. An event that he has won six times, he is angling for his first championship here since winning three in a row from 2014-16. This year, he has performed well at major tournaments, advancing to the semifinals of the Australian Open earlier this year. Conversely, he had a disappointing finish at Indian Wells, bowing out in the second round of the event. Regardless, you can never count Djokovic out of an event, especially one where he has had an amazing 44 wins throughout history. If he does not pull out of this tournament, he should be in contention to win.
Currently ranked as the No. 2 player in the world, the German tennis star is a rising player in the sport and a dark horse contender at this event. To date, Zverev has won 23 ATP Tour titles in singles and two in doubles, and has been a runner-up at three majors. Additionally, covered in this space before, he won a gold medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. With a career mark of 17-9 at the Miami Open, he advanced to the final round in 2018, but has not made it back since. That said, he did get to the semifinals last year, his second-best finish ever. He is also looking to bounce back after a second round exit at Indian Wells.
The last contender spotlight on this SBS rundown, Ruud has a career-high singles ranking of world No. 2, which he achieved in September 2022. Additionally, he has won twelve ATP Tour singles titles in his career and has finished runner-up at three majors, most recently the 2023 French Open. This year, he has not gotten off to the best start, with second round exits at both the Australian Open and Indian Wells. Additionally, he is aiming to better his mark at the Miami Open, where he boasts a modest overall record of 8-5. He made the final round of this event back in 2022.
A wide open competition, Zverev has that nice dark horse energy for this tournament and this could be the big momentum push he needs to kick 2025 into high gear heading into spring.
