UFC Men’s Light Heavyweight Championship overview: Alex Pereira (c) vs. Jamahal Hill

Fighter Spotlight: Alex Pereira

The reigning UFC Light Heavyweight Champion, Pereira is coming off back-to-back excellent wins over light heavyweight opponents. This includes a recent TKO win over Jiří Procházka at UFC 295 for the vacant UFC Light Heavyweight Championship in a Performance of the Night showcase. With an overall record of 9-2 with seven knockout wins, the Brazilian fighter has been a force in MMA fights. His only loss so far in UFC competition has been to Israel Adesanya at UFC 287. Recognized as the 2022 MMA Male Fighter of the Year by multiple outlets from Sports Illustrated to ESPN, Pereira has excelled in multiple divisions. He holds the record for the shortest time and fewest bouts to win championships in two divisions in UFC history (two years, seven months).

Fighter Spotlight: Jamahal Hill

His opponent in this matchup, Hill is another powerful fighter that has notched multiple Performance of the Night/Fight of the Night showcases. In his last bout, he was able to knock off Glover Teixeira in unanimous decision fashion at UFC 283. For this fight, he won the UFC Light Heavyweight title in a Fight of the Night performance, knocking off Teixera in Rio. However, he was then forced to vacate the title due to injury. In his career, he has been very consistent and successful like Pereira with an overall mark of 12-1 with seven knockout victories. Currently recognized as the No. 1 athlete in the UFC light heavyweight rankings, “Sweet Dreams” is a formidable foe.

Prediction: An excellent showcase, Pereira has the slight edge here given his more dominant recent performances and has been riding a strong wave of momentum.

UFC Men’s Heavyweight contest breakdown: Zhang Weili (c) vs. Yan Xiaonan

Fighter Spotlight: Zhang Weili

The current and two-time UFC Women’s Strawweight Champion, Zhang is a fantastic competitor. A professional fighter since 2013, she formerly competed in the Kunlun Fight where she was also the KLF Women’s Strawweight Champion. As of the most recent UFC rankings, she is recognized as a top three combatant in the UFC women’s pound-for-pound rankings. With a professional record of 24-3, she is currently riding a three-fight winning streak with wins over the likes of Amanda Lemos, Carla Esparza, and Joanna Jędrzejczyk. In that last bout against Jędrzejczyk, she was awarded the Performance of the Year honor for 2022 in the UFC.

Fighter Spotlight: Yan Xiaonan

Facing off against Zhang, Yan is coming off a great outing against Jessica Andrade at UFC 288 where she was able to notch the knockout victory in the first round of the contest. In a Performance of the Night contest, the Chinese combatant was able to shoot up the UFC rankings with a huge win. An athlete who is within the top ten of the UFC pound-for-pound rankings, Yan has a record of 17-3 with eight knockout wins. She is on a current two-fight winning streak as she faces off against the champion in this title fight.

Prediction: Zhang is the odds-on favorite in this fight for good reason as the champion has faced off against all contenders and has bested them (aside from Rose Namajunas). She is the pick to win this bout.
