A Las Vegas staple is now getting an added infusion of capital that should help it excel in a competitive Sin City gaming landscape. Per a recent report, the iconic Rio Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas has officially joined Hyatt’s portfolio. This development marks a significant milestone for the property and the brand. Following its successful $340 million phase one renovation, Rio is now part of the Destination by Hyatt brand – the first in Nevada and the world’s biggest Hyatt by room count. The move follows significant renovation and restructuring efforts, hopefully positioning the casino resort to excel in the competitive Las Vegas landscape.

For this report, SBS will be going over the latest gaming news coming from Las Vegas and also some more information regarding SBS wagering updates and beyond.

Renovation infusion offers significant improvements

Noted in the report, located at 3700 W. Flamingo Road, just minutes from the Las Vegas Strip, the Rio Hotel & Casino has undergone significant upgrades to elevate its offerings. The property’s Ipanema Tower now features 1,500 guest rooms, reimagined with energetic design elements inspired by the vibrant pulse of Rio de Janeiro. Visitors can also enjoy six new dining concepts in the Canteen Food Hall, offering “a delicious world of flavors for every taste.”

Some of the other updates, the article notes, include a renovated gaming floor with more than 500 new slot machines and 30 table games, maintaining the property’s appeal to gaming enthusiasts. Over 220,000 square feet of newly renovated meeting and convention space serve business and social gatherings, while four newly reimagined pools offer relaxation and entertainment

“Rio is an icon reborn, and its legacy and unique character live on. We are excited for our members and guests to discover the experiences that make Rio Las Vegas a standout destination for global travelers.” Mike Waddell, Hyatt Global Franchise operations senior vice president said in a recent press release.

Additionally, the transformation at Rio Hotel & Casino is far from over. Phase two of the renovation will focus on the Masquerade Tower, reimagining its guest rooms and public areas. These upgrades aim to blend modern luxury with the energetic spirit that has defined the Rio for decades, helping attract more diverse customers

Also covered in the article is the transformation of Rio, managed by Dreamscape Companies, which ushered in a new era for the property, which was previously under the umbrella of Caesars Entertainment. Changing management prompted some staffing adjustments, including layoffs, at the beginning of 2023, as the resort readjusted its needs during the extensive construction

Patrick Miller, Rio Hotel & Casino president and CEO, was excited to join the Hyatt brand. He noted this move would allow even more people to immerse themselves in the casino resort’s rich legacy and experience its fun and energetic atmosphere. World of Hyatt members visiting the venue can enjoy significant benefits and discounts, making this a win-win situation

“Rio’s Destination by Hyatt brand affiliation marks an exciting new chapter for our resort through our progressive evolution,” Miller said.

Additionally, the article notes that Rio’s affiliation with Hyatt and its extensive renovations reflect broader Las Vegas hospitality industry trends, where legacy properties are being reimagined to cater to changing traveler expectations. The revitalized Rio is positioning itself as a must-visit destination, blending tradition with transformation as it sets out to redefine the future of of-Strip Las Vegas

Customer hits $1M jackpot at Vegas Strip casino

Per another Las Vegas update, a guest turned a $50 bet into more than $1 million at a Strip casino in late November. The winner, who wished to remain anonymous, was playing Dragon Link by Aristocrat Gaming in the high-limit gaming lounge on the Palazzo casino floor at The Venetian, per a press release. The guest won the Grand Jackpot of $1,027,980.

Speaking of the Venetian, the Las Vegas resort recently announced its partnership with California’s Pechanga Resort Casino in Temecula. According to that report, the resorts have partnered to provide guests of each resort with shared access to amenities, casino club member rewards, and other benefits. With this new partnership, the report says, most of the perks guests receive will be based on their play. Each guest must be a Venetian Rewards member and Pechanga Club member to receive special offers, discounts, and invitations from each casino resort. Some perks for the various tiers of Pechanga guests heading to The Venetian Las Vegas include late hotel checkouts and discounts at the Venetian Shops and the property’s spa.
