Already underway, this year’s Rolex Paris Masters tournament features a dynamic bracket on the men’s singles side with one notable omission. Novak Djokovic was the reigning champion of the event but withdrew somewhat recently before the start of the tournament. With that in mind, the top seeds for this tournament are now, in order from first to fourth: Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcarraz, Alexander Zverrev, and Daniil Medvedev. Of course, with the Joker out of the picture, this now impacts the landscape dramatically for who might win the tournament and take home the top prize. The winner of two different major tournaments this year (the Australian Open and US Open), Sinner is the top seed followed closely by Alcaraz. However, Medvedev is the only player on this list who has won this event before, doing so in 2020.

For this article, SBS will explore what to look for from each of the top players in this tournament along with more notes and information related to tennis wagering and beyond.

The No. 1 Contender: Carlos Alcaraz (Odds: +200)

The winner of two of the other major tournaments this year, Alcaraz is an electric player who brings a ton of firepower to the table. Earlier this year, he scored huge victories at the French Open and also Wimbledon and has an overall record of 19-2 in major events this season. Meanwhile, in ATP Masters 1000 tournaments this year, he has an overall mark of 15-4 but only has one victory (Indian Wells) in this category of tournament. In addition to scoring a late-season win, he would also like to make his mark in Paris as he has never won the event before. In fact, his best performance to date at this contest was a quarterfinal appearance in 2022 – he will have work cut out though as the other players on this list have been playing very well.

The No. 2 Contender: Jannik Sinner (Odds: +220)

In an interesting turn of events, Sinner has probably had the best 2024 of any player in professional tennis with two Grand Slam wins and a record of 23-2 in major events. In addition to these huge tournaments, he has notched a stellar mark of 28-3 in ATP 1000 tournaments with three total victories as well this year. This includes taking home the crown at the Cincinnati Open, Shanghai Masters, and also the Miami Open. Of course, while there are no certain slam dunks in tennis, especially in this kind of loaded field, Sinner appears to be primed for another stellar run as he has been this year one of the most consistently strong players in the sport. With seven titles and eight final-round appearances in 2024, he would love to take down another championship.

Third Ranked Athlete: Alexander Zverev (Odds: +700)

Entering this contest, Zverev has an outside chance of scoring a victory here thanks to his fantastic and consistent prowess on the court. In 2024, he won the Italian Open and also made three final-round appearances in various championship tournaments. Earlier this year, he made the championship round of the French Open which was his best finish ever at the event. Moreover, he landed a semifinal appearance at the Australian Open as well. He has a career-high annual tournament win record of six in one calendar year.

Final contender spotlight: Daniil Medvedev (Odds: +800)

The last athlete on our list, Medvedev is a sensational player but he is searching for his first victory of 2024. That said, he has accrued 20 total victories in his career and is a great player who can hang with the best in the world when he is on his game. In 2023, he had a fantastic campaign, scoring five tour titles along with nine final-round appearances. He is also the 2021 U.S. Open champion and had 18 victories this season in Grand Slam tournament appearances. That said, he also won this event, the Paris Masters back in 2020 and made the championship round the following year as well. He would like to also improve on his second-round appearances in back-to-back campaigns.

Prediction

Another wide-open event for this foursome, take Sinner to win here with Djokovic out of the picture. Although he will have a tough time with these other competitors, he has still had the best 2024 of these players.
