The NFL season is nearing the end of the regular season which means that many player accolades have narrowed down their field of favorites. With that in mind, BetOnline has rolled out betting odds and markets for the Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year awards. Leading the way for the OPOY candidates is Miami Dolphins playmaker, Tyreek Hill (-300). Known as “Cheetah,” Hill has been torching NFL defenses all year in his pursuit to set the single-season receiving yards mark. Meanwhile, on the other side of the football, Cowboys linebacker Micah Parsons (+140) is the presumptive favorite to win the DPOY. A game-wrecker in his own right, Parsons has been instrumental in getting Dallas near the top of the NFC as they chase another Super Bowl.
In this article, SBS will be going over the latest news coming from BetOnline along with more notes about the website and what it is all about.
The league leader in receiving yards (1,481 as of this article’s writing), Hill has dominated opposing defenses this whole season. Known as the fastest player in the league, the speedster has been averaging 123.4 yards per game, which is nearly 25 more than the next closest player (CeeDee Lamb). In addition to his receiving yardage total, he has notched 12 touchdown receptions so far on the season. Hill is far and away, the best receiver in the game at this juncture. However, there is one other player who could test the Miami playmaker for the OPOY award down the stretch: San Francisco’s Christian McCaffrey (+225).
A fantasy football superstar, McCaffrey has put himself in the MVP conversation by doing it all for the 49ers this year. He already has over 1,000 yards rushing at 1,032 along with 17 total touchdown scores to date. Behind these two heavy favorites in the BetOnline rankings are two other game-changing wide receivers (albeit OPOY longshots) in Lamb (+1600) and the Eagles’ A.J. Brown (+3300). The former is second in the league in receiving yards and has seven receiving scores while the latter is fourth in the league in yards along with the same number of receiving touchdowns. Both of these NFC East receivers have been pivotal to their team’s playoff aspirations.
At +140, Parsons has set himself up as the favorite for the top defensive accolade once again thanks to a stellar season at the linebacking position. The former defensive rookie of the year, Parsons has accrued 11.5 sacks this season to go along with 42 total tackles and 13 tackles for loss. However, unlike the OPOY race where it is realistically down to two contenders, the DPOY competition is pretty wide-open. In addition to the Cowboys stalwart, Myles Garrett (+200) is another player who has set himself up for the award with 13 sacks of his own along with four forced fumbles. Curiously though, BetOnline has omitted the current league leader in sacks (15), the Chargers’ Khalil Mack, from their short list of DPOY contenders. Of course, this could change down the season’s final stretch.
Finally, per the BetOnine site, there are the two other players under the +4000 odds that stand out – the Steelers’ T.J. Watt (+285) and Dallas’ DaRon Bland (+1200). The former is second in the league in sacks at 14 and the latter has set a new standard for interception scores this year with five pick-sixes so far in 2023.
