Moving at a high rate of speed, the 2023 NASCAR Xfinity Series is reaching its regular season crescendo with only three races left and the postseason looming. With that in mind, the second-tier circuit features some of the sport’s brightest rising stars and a handful of racers vying for the championship gold. Per the latest standings, Austin Hill is the one at the top of the leaderboard with 886 points and four total wins on the season. Trailing him is John Hunter Nemechek who has been tabbed by some outlets as the man to beat despite trailing by nine points in the standings. Justin Allgaier is the man in third place in the standings and has been able to accrue multiple top-ten finishes on the season. Meanwhile, Cole Custer is the dark horse contender even though he trails by 100 points heading into the final regular season stretch.
For this report, SBS will be going over what to look for from each racer, along with a predicted winner and also more notes about NASCAR wagering.
Favorites to Win The 2023 NASCAR Xfinity Series | |||
---|---|---|---|
John Hunter Nemechek | +125 | +125 | +125 |
Austin Hill | +240 | +240 | +240 |
Justin Allgaier | +400 | +400 | +400 |
Cole Custer | +550 | +550 | +550 |
The consensus top choice from most outlets, Nemechek has had a fantastic 2023 campaign thus far. With five wins on the season, the 26-year-old has been angling for the title all year long. In addition to his multiple victories, the North Carolina native has been able to rattle top-10 finishes on a consistent basis – 11 and counting. If he can keep this stream of momentum going then he has a great chance to capture the 2023 crown.
The current points leader, Hill has been able to get atop the standings thanks to some spectacular finishes and a great start to the year. This includes the initial start of the season where he had three wins out of five races to kick off the 2023 campaign. Lately, though he has cooled off a bit with some double-digit finishes as of late, but still has a nice lead at the top of the standings. If he can replicate his early season stretch or even midseason where he had a string of top-five finishes, then he has a route to the title.
Allgaier is really the final racer with a shot at the regular season title, given that he is only 34 points off the first-place Hill. While he had some blowup performances at the beginning of the year (a 36th-place outing, followed by a 29th), Allgaier has rebounded quite nicely. Since then he has notched a win at the Alsco Uniforms 300 in North Carolina and also six top-five finishes. A veteran racer, Allgaier knows what it takes to compete for a full season.
Custer is our last racer spotlight and while he is a bit far off from the top three on our list, he still has a chance to make the final push for the championship. He has been rounding into form during the midseason and has had multiple wins to his credit since the halfway point of the 2023 campaign. However, he has sputtered in the last couple of races, dropping three double-digit race performances in the last couple of outings. He has a tough road ahead though with the three at the top.
Prediction: This should be an exciting finish to the season, but take Nemechek here to win given his higher winning percentage and overall finishes this year.
