With the halfway point of the MotoGP season approaching, there have been multiple racers that have jostled for the top spot in the sport. Currently in first place is Italy’s Francesco Bagnaia who has won three of the last five races held and also two of the last three. Trailing him is another Ducati ace, Jorge Martin, who won the German motorcycle Grand Prix and has multiple second-place finishes on the season (two). Another competitor that has been in contention throughout the year is Marco Bezzecchi, who has been able to accrue multiple victories as well (Argentina and France). Finally, the dark horse contender in this race is France’s Fabio Quartararo who, while in ninth place, has hung around the top ten waiting to break through.
In this article, SBS will be going over what to look for from each racer, along with a race prediction, and even more notes about MotoGP wagering.
2023 MotoGP British Grand Prix | |||
---|---|---|---|
Jorge Martin | +250 | +250 | +250 |
Francesco Bagnaia | +300 | +300 | +300 |
Marco Bezzecchi | +500 | +500 | +500 |
Fabio Quartararo | +650 | +650 | +650 |
As noted above, Martin is currently in second place in the 2023 MotoGP standings and is 35 points away from Bagnaia in the standings. In his last five races, he has turned it on by finishing within the top five in each outing. In fact, he has accrued three top-three marks in three of his last four outings. Coming off a fifth-place showing in the Netherlands, Martin needs a big outing here to stay within earshot of Bagnaia.
The reigning points leader, the Italian racer has been able to hold off the competition with multiple victories on the year. A member of the Ducati Lenovo Team, “Pecco” has won two of the last three contests on the MotoGP circuit and is coming off a victory in the Netherlands. While he has retired twice in the year so far, (the last time occurring in France), the Italian racer is always a strong bet to notch the checkered flag.
Fresh off a second-place finish in the Netherlands, Bezzecchi has accrued two wins on the year and is awfully close to second place in the 2023 MotoGP World Championship standings (one point off). Indeed the Italian racer has been able to hold his own throughout the season, with only one race leading to a retirement outing. Compare this to Bagnaia and Martin who both have been unable to finish two races apiece this season. Bezzecchi is also aiming for his third win on the year, which would tie him with Bagnaia for the lead.
While he is coming off a race where he did not finish, Quartararo is a racer that has some betting markets penciled in as a dark horse racer. While he has only finished within the top three once this season (back at the Circuit of the Americas), there is an outside chance he is overdue for a win. The 2021 MotoGP World Champion should not be overlooked as “El Diablo” is still one of the world’s best.
Prediction: Martin is due for another win and has been able to consistently finish within the top three each race so this could be another great outing for him.
