France and Denmark clash in their second Group D fixture on Saturday, and it promises to be a cracker. Here we look ahead to the match in our France vs Denmark 2022 World Cup betting picks.
In their respective opening matches on Tuesday, the two teams had mixed fortunes. Denmark were held to a disappointing 0-0 draw by Tunisia, while France thrashed what could be called an unlucky Australia 4-1.
It might sound bizarre to call a team who lost 4-1 unlucky, But the Aussies gave the French a scare early on, and in the end they were unlucky to just be hit by a French power surge that probably would have blown away most teams in world football.
The win for the defending champions, along with Argentina’s shock defeat to Saudi Arabia, has seen the French elevated to second favorites in the betting to win the 2022 World Cup.
France are now +675 to win the trophy back-to-back. That puts them only behind Brazil with the best world cup betting sites, who are just +320 to win their first world title since 2002. Following behind the French is England at +725, and Argentina at +825.
The match is taking place at what can be called either the iconic, or bizarre Stadium 974. Holding 40,000, the stadium is built from 974 shipping containers, hence its odd name.
The match kicks off at 11 am eastern time, a nice start time for a Saturday morning. Especially if you’ve been out celebrating a ‘possible’ USA win over England the previous night.
After dropping two points against Tunisia, this is a huge game for Denmark. The best soccer betting sites still think that Kasper Hjulmand’s side will qualify. They have France at -5000 to make it to the Round of 16, and Denmark at -225 to do likewise. Tunisia comes next at +275, and Australia is +375.
As for the betting to win the group, France are -600 favorites, with Denmark next at +400, Tunisia at +2200, and Australia are last at +6600. These prices are all from Bovada, who you can read even more about in our Bovada sportsbook review.
The two teams have a pretty even record in the head-to-head. They have played 16 times in total. France has won eight times, Denmark six times, and there have been two draws.
Significantly, Denmark have beaten France twice already this year in the UEFA Nations League. The Danes came from behind to win 2-1 away in Paris in June, and they followed that up with a 2-0 home win in September this year.
The recent head-to-head record doesn’t appear to be holding much sway with the bookmakers as they can’t seem to see anything other than another win for France.
France vs Denmark; 2022 World Cup Betting Odds | |||
---|---|---|---|
France | -118 | -120 | -115 |
Draw | +258 | +260 | +255 |
Denmark | +375 | +360 | +370 |
The bookmakers have France at -118 on the moneyline, with Denmark at +375, and the draw at +258. Those are short odds on the draw, with a win from Denmark deemed to be the least likely outcome.
The handicap line has Denmark receiving a half a goal headstart. Starting from -0.5, France is -115. With a +0.5 start, Denmark are -105. Over 2.5 goals is +110, under 2.5 goals is -138.
The French are already in control of the group, and the Danes will be seriously worried after dropping two points against Tunisia. If the Danes can’t get anything out of their match with the French, then they are going to have to beat Australia, and hope that France will do them a favor against Tunisia.
Before we get to that stage though, there’s plenty that could happen. The Tunisians are playing Australia earlier in the day on Saturday, and the outcome of that result, could determine the Danes’ game plan against France.
If Tunisia win, then the Aussies are out, and Denmark may decide a point (or even a 1-0 loss) against the French, and a win over Australia should be enough to get them through. That would mean relying on France beating Tunisia heavily in their last match though.
If Australia wins and France beats Denmark, then the Danes will probably only need to beat the Aussies in their final match to get through, no matter what the Tunisans do against France (unless Tunisia thrash them, which is highly unlikely).
This is mostly based on the assumption that Denmark is going to lose to France, and that’s probably because I think they will. Yes, there’s been plenty of shocks in this competition, but the depth of talent France has at its disposal is scary.
Even with all the players they have lost through injury, France is still one of the strongest teams in the competition, and I can see them beating Denmark, and I also think this match will be over 2.5 goals.
