Both the San Diego Padres and the Philadelphia Phillies are making fists of it in the NLDS finals. So with both teams currently holding their supposed superior National League opponents to draws at the moment, we look at both their latest series betting, and decide if there is likely to be any shocks in the NLDS finals.
The two matchups in the NLDS sees the world series favorite, the LA Dodgers taking on the San Diego Padres (currently 1-1), and Atlanta Braves taking on the Philadelphia Phillies (also, currently 1-1).
To give you an idea of how difficult the task facing the Padres and the Phillies are, the LA Dodgers have been the betting favorites to win the 2022 World Series since early in the season, while the Atlanta Braves are the 2021 World Series winners, looking to defend their crown.
The Dodgers have been the favorites to win this year’s world series, although they’ve just lost that accolade to the Houston Astros.
The Astros are now +275, with the Dodgers at +285. There’s not much difference, and should the Dodgers regain control over the Padres in their NLDS series, I expect they will go favorites again.
Elsewhere in the latest betting to win the 2022 World Series, the New York Yankees are +500, with the Atlanta Braves at +600.

Now, let’s take a closer look at the two current NLDS series and see where the value picks are.
Starting with the defending champions first, and the Atlanta Braves have had a storming end to their season. About four months ago they were 10 wins behind the New York Mets in the NL East. They closed that gap on the Mets, who at times have been amongst the betting favorites to win the world series this year, and eventually won the NL East division.
They’re up against the Philadelphia Phillies who needed to win a wildcard series against the Cardinals to get this far, having finished third in the NL East.
In the regular season in the NL East, the Braves won an impressive 101 matches, the Phillies 87. This highlights how better the Braves were across the regular-season and shows why, with the series level at 1-1, they are the -150 favorites to beat the Phillies who are +130.
In series props bets, the best MLB betting sites favor the Braves, and they also have total games played priced up at -115 for both under and over 4.5 games. Clearly they think there is an even money chance the series will go to a fifth and deciding match.
Other series bets include the correct score. In this market, the Braves are +185 to win 3-2, and +250 to win 3-1. The Phillies are +375 to win 3-2, and +325 to win 3-1.
There is also a handicap spread. In this market, the Phillies get the +1.5 games start, and are -280. The Braves (-1.5) are +220.
For me, I feel the best value bet is on the Braves to win. They were a lot better than the Philadelphia Phillies this season, and therefore are a worthwhile betting pick to win at -150.
When the Dodgers beat the Padres 5-3 in the opening match of the series we could have been forgiven for thinking that this would be a routine series win.
The Dodgers had a 14-5 regular season record over the Padres, and won 111 matches, compared to the Padres’ 89 wins.
The Padres fought back brilliantly in the second match to win 5-3, reversing the scoreline. They now have two home matches at Petco Park. Win both of those, and they pull off an unlikely shock series victory.
In the series winner betting, the best MLB postseason betting sites make the Dodgers their -170 favorites, while the Padres are +150. The Dodgers had a 54-27 away record in the regular season (it was 57-24 at home), so back-to-back away games at the Padres shouldn’t phase them, and I think that makes the -170 a good value bet.
Moving on into the series props bets, and the Dodgers to win 3-2 is +185. For them to win 3-1, they are +240. For a Padres win, 3-2 is +400, 3-1 is +310.
On the series handicap market, San Diego Padres (+1.5) are -285, while the LA Dodgers (-1.5) are +225. The best MLB betting sites also have the total games at -115 for over 4.5 games, and -115 for under 1.5 games.
For a betting pick, I’m simply going for the LA Dodgers to win the series at -170.
LA has been by some distance the best team in MLB for some months now, so it makes no sense to back against them now.
