When the Atlanta Braves clinched the NL East on Tuesday night, we finally knew what the MLB wild card match-ups would be on both sides of the MLB bracket.
The battle between the Braves and the Mets went all the way down to the penultimate matches of the season. It has been a spectacular battle between last year’s world series winners, and the early season runaway leaders of the NL East.
After the Braves swept the Mets over the weekend, they took the season series score against their rivals to 10-9, ensuring that they would have top spot in the event of a tie. This left the Braves needing just one win from their series against the Marlins, which they got on Tuesday in their 2-1 win.
With the NL East clinched, the Braves go straight into the final National League Division Series (NLDS), leaving the Mets to take their place in the wild card matches. This meant we now have all 12 teams locked in for what looks to be a spectacular 2022 MLB postseason.
The four wildcard matches will be best of three and are to take place over the weekend. They will be played on Friday, Saturday, and if a deciding match is needed, it will be on Sunday. The lineups are:-
Going straight into the Division Series are the Houston Astros (1) and the New York Yankees (2) in the ALDS, and the LA Dodgers (1) and the Atlanta Braves (2) in the NLDS.
Such has been the good form of the Astros and the drop off from the Yankees, the Astros are the favorites to win the American League Pennant with BetOnline. The Astros are +175, with the Yankees at +225.
Following on from those two is the Toronto Blue Jays at +600, with the Tampa Bay Rays at +750, the Cleveland Guardians at +800, and the Seattle Mariners also at +800.
In the National League it’s also looking fairly tight in the Pennant betting. The LA Dodgers are +150, with the Atlanta Braves next at +220.
The Mets look to be making it a three-way tussle at +450, and they are followed by the St Louis Cardinals at +750, the Philadelphia Phillies at +1200, and the San Diego Padres at +1400. The Padres seem to be paying the price for having to face the Mets.
Unsurprisingly, the Dodgers are still the favorites with the best MLB betting sites to win the World Series. The Dodgers are +285 with BetOnline, who make the Houston Astros second favorites at +425.
The Braves (+475) and the Yankees (+550) make up the top four in the betting. Full odds can be found below.

The Guardians will get the postseason started against the Rays at Progressive Field in the first match of the day. The Guardians topped the AL Central with 92 wins, a win percentage of .568.
As for the Rays, they never really looked like catching the Yankees in the AL East. And having been level with the Blue Jays just a few weeks ago, it is alarming at just how much their form dropped off as they ended the season six wins behind the Blue Jays with a .531 record. In their last ten matches, the Rays are 2-8.
Match 1 Details:-
The best MLB postseason betting sites make the Guardians are -123 to win the series, the Rays are +103. On form, there can only be one winner – the Guardians.
The Cardinals topped the NL Central with 93 wins and a win percentage of .574. They will go into the series with a 4-6 record from their last ten matches.
As for the Phillies, they finished a distant third behind the Braves and the Mets in the NL East. Their last ten match record reads 4-6, and they won 87 regular season games, 14 less than the Braves and the Mets.
Match 1 Details:-
The Cardinals are the favorites at -130, with Philadelphia at +110. The winners of this will face the Atlanta Braves in the Division Series. I can see the hosts winning this.
Two of the outsiders to win the World Series, with the winner of this due to play the Houston Astros. Both sides had 7-3 finishes to the season, but I believe the Blue Jays had the more difficult run in.
Match 1 Details:-
Home advantage sees the Blue Jays at -160 to win the series, with the Mariners at +140. I can only see a win for the Blue Jays.
The Mets will be gutted to finish in the wildcard slots, but that’s history now and they have to regroup against the Padres.
Match 1 Details:-
There may well be a shock win somewhere, but I don’t see it here. The Mets are -175, the Padres are +155. Can the Mets recover from their end of season slump? I think they will do it.
