Per a report from the CBS affiliate in Baltimore, Maryland’s casinos saw another banner month in August for gaming revenues. According to the update article from WBOC in Baltimore, Maryland’s six casinos were able to combine for $169,351,853 in gaming revenue last month. This total represented an increase of $892,605 or a 5% increase from August of 2021, according to the Maryland Lottery and Gaming board. While overall gaming revenues increased in 2022, casino gaming contributions in the state were down year over year, at 6%.

For this article, SBS will take a deeper dive into these numbers, what they mean, and also some more thoughts and notes about Maryland gaming.

Maryland casinos also saw contributions to trust fund decline

In the same report from WBOC, the CBS outlet reported that contributions to the Education Trust Fund in August were down year over year. Contributions for this year came in at just around $51,496,162, which was a decrease of $293,463 or six percent from August of last year. Per the article, and as one would assume, casino gaming revenues also support the communities and jurisdictions where the casinos are located. This includes establishments and organizations like Maryland’s horse racing industry and small minority and women-owned businesses.

For those not familiar, Maryland’s six privately owned casinos offer both slot machines and table games. This includes MGM National Harbor in Prince George’s County, Live! Casino & Hotel in Anne Arundel County along with Horseshoe Casino Baltimore in Baltimore City. Moreover, this also takes into account Ocean Downs Casino in Worcester County, Hollywood Casino Perryville in Cecil County, and Rocky Gap Casino Resort in Allegany County according to the report.

Breakdown of Maryland casino revenues also updated
