Certainly, a tennis competition that needs no introduction, this year’s men’s singles tournament at Wimbledon will feature a ton of top-flight action. The favorite entering this competition will be three-time defending champion Novak Djokovic who won three of four Grand Slam titles in 2021. One of his chief rivals will be long-time foe Rafael Nadal who is seeking to become the first man to achieve a double Surface Slam with a Wimbledon victory. Behind them will be 19-year-old sensation Carlos Alcaraz and the former No. 6 player in the world, Mario Berrettini.

In this breakdown, SBS will go over the top four favorites vying for the Wimbledon title and who will ultimately be crowned the victor.

Novak Djokovic-115
Matteo Berrettini+700
Rafael Nadal+800
Carlos Alcaraz+900

The No. 1 Contender: Novak Djokovic (Odds: -115)

An athlete that has been one of the most dominant players in his sport for a long time, Djokovic is seeking his seventh Wimbledon title in July. While Joker has yet to notch a Grand Slam crown in 2022, he still has found ways to win. Earlier this year he won the Italian Open and has made it to two final rounds. While he has maybe not had the year he would have liked thus far, he has a big opportunity to change that at Wimbledon. During the course of his career at the London tournament, he has put together a record of 79-10 which equates to an 89% winning percentage. In fact, in addition to his three-year winning streak, he has won the tournament five of the last seven years it has been held.

The No. 2 Player: Matteo Berrettini (Odds: +700)

Runner-up to Djokovic at the 2021 Wimbledon tournament, the 26-year-old Italian will be shooting for his first-ever Grand Slam title in London. With a career-winning percentage of 65.3%, Berrettini has had a solid 2022 thus far with a semifinal appearance at the Australian Open and an overall win-loss of 13-6. In addition to his strong showing Down Under, the Italian has been on a roll in June. Earlier this month he won the Stuttgart Open in Germany and then went on to victory at the Queen’s Club Championship in the United Kingdom not too long after.

Third Ranked Contender: Rafael Nadal (Odds: +800)

One of the most decorated athletes in modern tennis history, Nadal is aiming for a third-straight Grand Slam title for 2022. Following a fantastic performance at the 2022 Australian Open to kick off the year, the Spaniard went on to notch his 14th French Open title earlier this month. In addition to his two Grand Slam titles, Nadal also was victorious at the 2022 Mexican Open in February. While he has certainly found a ton of success in 2022, he has historically failed to meet expectations at Wimbledon. The last time he notched a Wimbledon victory was back in 2010 and his tournament winning percentage of 82% is the lowest of any of his Grand Slam tournament records.

Final Contender: Carlos Alcaraz (Odds: +900)

The final spotlight on our Wimbledon list, Alcaraz has had a great 2022. While he has not won any Grand Slam titles, the 19-year-old still has been able to notch five ATP titles over the course of the year. This includes wins at the Miami Open and also the Madrid Open in May. While he has never advanced past the second round of Wimbledon (he has only competed in the event once), he does have a ton of momentum and will be one to watch. This has been reflected in his 2022 record of 32-4.

Prediction: While Nadal has certainly had the best 2022 of any of the players above when it comes to Grand Slam titles, Djokovic has dominated Wimbledon as of late and is the pick here
