Augusta National is one of the most beautiful golf courses in the world. The legendary co-founder Bobby Jones has this amazing quote about visiting the property for the first time.

“I shall never forget my first visit to the property which is now Augusta National. The long lane of magnolias through which we approached was beautiful. The old manor house was charming. The rare trees and shrubs of the old nursery were enchanting. But when I walked out on the grass terrace under the big trees behind the house and looked down over the property, the experience was unforgettable. It seemed the land had been lying there for years just waiting for someone to lay a golf course upon it.”

Some of the most exciting golf that you can witness anywhere in the world takes place at the Amen Corner at Augusta National.

Herbert Warren Wind coined the term for his 1958 Sports Illustrated story about The US Masters and it describes a sequence from the second shot of White Dogwood, the 11th hole, through the 12th hole called Golden Bell and the two first shots of Azalea, the thirteenth hole.

Augusta National Golf Club is famous for the water skipping shots on the 16th hole, Camellia. It probably dates back to the 1980s when a pro called Lee Trevino used to do it.

The 2020 U.S Open champion Bryson DeChambeau explains the science of hitting your ball towards the water on purpose:

It’s not compulsory to skip on the water on the 16th though – as you can see here from Justin Thomas on the video below.

Justin Thomas isn’t the only golfer to do that. In fact, Shane Lowry, Davis Love III, and Louis Oosthuizen all hit a hole-in-one on the 16th in the same tournament, the 2016 US Masters.
